Finally broke down and got the EZ for this weekend. I installed it, and to be honest, I see no difference(other than 28 lb boost). Shouldn't I see some smoke on setting 3?... Haven't seen a hint of a cloud yet!. . Help... From the posting here, I thought maybe I would see a bigger improvement.

WLM RAMMAN,

I installed an EZ this past weekend on my otherwise stock ETH. It is like driving a completely different truck. Here's a summary of my initial impressions regarding the EZ:

1. Lot's more power, VERY noticeable improvement.

2. Improved idle, significantly quieter especially when cold.

3. Tons of smoke on setting three. I towed a ~12K equipment trailer with the EZ and it layed down a very impressive cloud, I couldn't believe the amount of smoke, even at level three given that I'm otherwise stock (no big injectors, at least not yet!). I'm going to try level 2 & see what happens.

I was very impressed with the way my truck ran stock, but there is such a night and day difference with the EZ, that I'm sure you've got a deffective unit if you can't tell much difference on your truck. I can't speak for how the EZ will work on a modified rig, but on a stock truck the differences are very, very apparent.

WLM_RAMMAN, first welcome to the TDR! Second, I'd check the connections, unplug and replug, and make sure the wiring harnesses are in good shape. Then I'd take off the end cap of the EZ and check the jumper settings. If that fails to make a difference, you might consider getting a replacement EZ. It should make a very noticable difference. BTW (by the way) what are you driving (year/model/trans/mods)?

Is smoke a normal symptom? How else can you tell if it's working (will it spin tires, etc. )?

I also did not notice a dramatic improvement in performance - quite disappointed! The only reason I think it's doing something is the fact I do not get an over-boost fault. (That only means the boost module part is working).

Could there be other things (fuel pump, etc. ) causing the limited improvement?

Kurt,
I agree, check the connections..... The EZ was the first mod I did, and a noticeable change it was!!! I know the ETH won't respond quite like an ETC, but you should still feel an increase in power, torque, and driveability... .

Fool proof way to "Test" it... ... go out and run it hard with EZ on... ... then take the EZ off and run it hard... ... . thats when most people "notice" the difference.

Do some 0 to 60 times to get an idea... ... before and after.

WLM RAMMAN,

I hate to beat a dead horse, but something has got to be wrong either with your unit or with some of the connections if you're not sure whether or not it is working properly. The diference is not at all subtle, if everything were working properly, believe me, you would be able to tell.

I've got the 275RV injectors and installed the PE EZ two weeks ago. SOP performance improved, but I also don't see any smoke. If we don't have smoke is there a problem?

I ran it set on 3 for about 2500 miles on a trip from OR to CO and back. This past week I switched it to setting 2 to see what the difference would be. On the CO trip the best mpg I got was 18. 9 (several tanks) (mostly interstate driving at 80mph). With setting 2 I got 19. 6 on this last tank, which was commuting and 200 miles of freeway at 65-70mph. I don't put much stock in single tank mpg calculations, but I think that setting 2 will give me better mileage, plus I still have better performance than just the RV injectors.

Pull the end plate off the EZ box and make sure the jumper isn't on level one.
Sounds like it could be set to level one.

Level 1 - with PC board on bottom, little black plug in thingie is on the left set of pins.

Just to clarify, you shouldn't see smoke all the time with the ez... with our without injectors. I've got 275 injectors with the ez set on 3. If I drive normally, I don't see any smoke. If I put my foot into it with boost already up, I can see minimal smoke. If I put my foot into it from a standstill, no/little boost, I get a big cloud of black smoke until the boost builds up and then I rocket away making limited smoke again. I have to say that injectors and the ez together made the biggest difference for me. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with the dd2's though.

You can disable to fueling part by unplugging the connection on the pump and leaving me MAP connector hooked up. Just like everyone else mine made a big difference. Especialy in the 1800-2400 range. I was able to outrun a stock truck pulling a 4k load this weekend lol

WLM RAMMAN,
Since you don't have a sig up yet... and I don't know if the EZ is your only mod... heres another thought... on cool mornings, even with 275's it's unlikely you'll see any smoke, regardless of the setting... . with stock injectors, you might not see any smoke at all, no matter what the outside temp is... I've got II's in my truck, and when it's cool out, it barely wisps at start with no boost... but these days now when it's quite warm, I can block the sun when I stand on and the boost is'nt up yet.

BTW. . you must have a boost guage in the truck, right?... how did you disable your waistegate?

Treeman (Ian),

I had mine done by Herb as well... he warned me about you! I've been real happy with the TC & VB... still waiting on the engine light fix though. My truck is white with bright silver along the bottom trim. I'd love to get a local chapter going. I would think we've got enough guys around to get something started.

WLM RAMMAN: Your 'EZ' box or your connections are not working! there's 'NO WAY' you would not feel a tremendous difference over stock.
Do several 0-60 times with everything connected, and then just disconnect the 'data-linc'(flat) plug. Then do a couple of runs. You should get a minimum 3 second difference. If none-your box ins inop and get it replaced.

BTY, Steve and Ian,(Waterbrain and TreeMan)
Since we're all here in Sacramento, let's get that chapter started, because we all have a couple of things to improve with our rigs that I'm sure could be addressed at a get-together. There's also some other guys here, one guy even that works at Swift Auto World in the parts department. Maybe RamCowboy could talk Bob Swift into using his shop facilities on some weekend. Worth inquiring??

Let me beat the dead horse a bit more, in regards to the smoke issue. When I had the EZ on my otherwise stock ETH, I couldn't get smoke out of that pipe no matter what I did. With the stage 3 injectors, the smoke came into existence, especially when hammering it with low boost, as stated above. I can't speak for the 275 injectors, as I have never tried them, but I wouldn't judge the EZ's performance on the amount of smoke you produce with stock injectors, there probably won't be much until you add the showerheads.
Do as Kat stated, try some hard and timed runs (0-60, 40-60, etc. ) with the box off and then try it with the box on, you should see a big sit 'O pants difference between the two. Hope this helps, if not, Edge Prod. 's people are real easy to do business with, just give them a call.

If connections were bad, wouldn't there be an over-boost fault, because the box wasn't giving the right signals? Also, wouldn't there be a fault if the map sensor connections weren't made?

I thought of disabling it, but I don't want to trip a fault (don't want to take the boost elbow back off).

Will completely removing the jumper disable the fueling, but still allow the boost module portion to function?

I did not see any smoke on level three before injectors but on level two with 275's I leave a substancal cloud if I lay into it with low boost.
