Just a thought from my side.
I had this engine years ago in a canter in my business, i wouldn't use that engine, its a very lazy dog, no torque no power just high rpm noisy.
Typically asian Diesel, never found one with some esprit.

The engine tells you with every rpm that he wont work for you - if I don't come today I'll come tomorrow - like we say.

Ozy

Yeah a 4bt was my first choice, but this came available for a good price. Honestly, I bet, I end up, fixing the pan, painting it, setting it on a run stand and selling it complete, able to run on the stand. Im sure I can turn a good profit just doing that. Lots of people need these for equipment or heavy truck replacement.

Yeah, that sounds even better then make a whole lot of work, fixing it into a car an find out that it wasn't worth it.

I do not have the serial number of the truck. But I believe it was late eighties, possibly 1988 or 1989. But that's really all I know about it. It came with a 5 speed manual transmission from that truck as well. I am thinking about doing a swap into a smaller vehicle. Maybe a Ford Ranger, an old F 150, and old Bronco, or something like that. Or when my wife finds out I bought it I might just sell it

If finances permit, I would follow through and stick it in a Ranger like you were mulling. What kind of injector pump does it have? Inline, rotary, or unit pumps?

The pump is inline. If I keep it and use it, I will built a nice strong, higher horsepower engine. I would do a fresh overhaul of entire engine, probably head stud it. Got a local fuel shop that I like that could go through the pump for me and get larger injectors.

That said though, it's good to go, as is, if somebody just wanted to swap it in a piece of equipment. We'll see. First things first is the oil pan, then I'll make a eng run stand and set it up to run it.
