My truck's in storage, so I can't check it out, but...

Would it be possible to mount gauges in the area above the rear-view mirror. Could possilbly use a dash pod, upside-down, cut to fit the headliner contour. I personally don't think this would be as intrusive as the A-pillar, which get right in your face, and can obstruct your view. Yet, it'd be fairly easy to read (as easy as checking outside temp. ). I think the X-Monitor would work really well here, because it would be right next to the o/h computer, which has similar display.

Big drawbacks could be space (again I can't readily check into it), and length of the wires/tubes.

What do ya think?

I'm not sure you could mount it to the headliner as the overhead console goes right to the edge of the headliner above the mirror

You beat me to it...

boonsur,

I have been looking at that same spot for about month now. I also had the idea of using a dash pod upside down.

Although I have not taken out the roof computer. I was planning on making a metal bracket that will mount behind the roof console and follow the taper to the window and be cut the same size as the screened tint that is there. I will also attach black felt to the side that faces the window, to keep it from rattling. I might end up making my own pod out of fiberglass that will allow 2 gauges on either side with space in the middle for switches.

Whatever you come up with, I would like to see it.

It'll be another month or two before I get the truck back out & start working on it. I thought I may go ahead & buy gauges now, but I think I'll hold off. I may spend the extra for the X-monitor if I can make it work there, because it would look so good.

One advantage of using the X-monitor is that it is only the guage itself that needs to be mounted up there. The "brain" is mounted under the dash with just (what looks like) a telephone wire between them.

I like the idea but I've been thinking of something that you might like also.

I just put a "shelf it" in & it looks like a great place to put our gauges - NO drilling into the truck head liner to mount the pods - just mount them in the fabric covered aluminum shelf.

The shelf uses the threads for the removed visors to mount & the visors are then re-installed to the "shelf it".

No head liner to remove to rout the wires to the piller either.

The shelf was only around $50.

Just a note ... ... This was in my 97' & I don't know if there is one available yet for the 3 gens.

just a thought.

Now i kinda like that shelf idea!! wouldnt hurt to have a little more storage space either! cause i sure dont like the pillar or dash mounts that ive seen so far. Being somewhat short, i dont need any obstructions on the dash for sure lol
