Is it ok to mount a hydraulic winch 90 degrees backwards? I don't see why it would effect the function or performance. I may have to mount it this way, but I'm not sure. If they don't like mounting this way, I'll probably just get an electric. Thanks.

I don't know about hydraulics—I would think it doesn't matter. I do know that when I installed my M15 the odd thing was the line pull was designed to be in line with the mounting feet, i. e. the winch lays on its 'back' and pulls between its feet (mounted to a front plate). I guess this is to reduce shear stress in the bolts??

I ended up getting the Warn M15000 too. I saw a picture of one mounted and with the 4 mounting bolts up front, I thought that is was mounted "rolled back". But it does make sense to have the mounting bolts up front instead of below trying to keep it from twisting.

I'll have that puppy mounted next week hopefully. Just need to get some metal plate and borrow a friend's torch.

My thoughts

I suggest a winch which can be used front or rear, in hitch receivers. That is the most usefull, but really mandates electric. My electric choice is Ramsey.
