02 Dakota help needed w/ truck...

Terry - It all depends on which way the wind blows... Last time we did not get much ash is Anchorage, the time before we got about an inch or so. I would make sure you have any extra air filter handy and If it gets real bad I would change my oil a couple weeks after its over. Hopefully if she does blow it will be when its warm and wet, that way when it freezes it will lock all the ash in for the winter. Its going to be a dusty spring no matter what.

When it erupted in the early 70s, I was living in Homer. We got a couple of inches on top of the snow. I just parked my 72 Land Rover and used my State vehicle. I think I will stock up on air filters!!!

I think the important thing is to change the oil after and try to keep the filter covered with an Outerwears, and don't open up the stock housings unless necessary.

I was thinking the same things as you. It might be nice to have a spare K&M to changeout and clean and dry and reoil every day or so? Also to change the oil as soon as its over would be a good idea.

Thank you for the heads up.

Current Augustine status: Seismicity at Augustine continues to be relatively low compared to last week. Web camera views showed steaming at the summit of the volcano. Small explosions can still occur with no warning and could affect low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the volcano. There is no indication that a large eruption of Augustine is imminent.

That report cracks me up, in the paper the other day they said it was going to blow soon. Now they say its relatively low and no erruption imminent. I wish they would just admit that they don't know what is going on.

hate to say it but don't matter what machine they got, if she decided to go it will be on the volcanoe's terms LOL. . Hopefully you guys won't have to deal with it and she will quieten down...

If it does good luck and i would also stock up on filters just in case... and if you happen to have an indoor garage or building that will help some.

Current Level of Concern Color Code: RED

AUGUSTINE VOLCANO (CAVW#1103-01-)

59. 3633°N 153. 4333°W, Summit Elevation 4134 ft (1260 m)

Current Level of Concern Color Code: RED

Unrest continues at Augustine Volcano and additional eruptive activity could occur at any time.

AVO recorded two discrete explosions at the summit of Augustine Volcano this morning at 4:44 a. m. and 5:13 a. m. (AST) and responded by changing the level of concern color code from ORANGE to RED. Satellite data confirm that an ash cloud was produced and in collaboration with the National Weather Service (NWS), the height of the cloud was estimated at 30,000 feet above sea level. NWS and AVO are tracking the ash plume which has detached from the vent and is presently drifting to the north and east of Augustine. As of about 10:45 a. m. (AST), the ash cloud has moved little since this morning and is about 30 mi (50 km) east and 45 mi (72 km) north of the volcano. An ash-fall advisory was issued by the NWS at 6:44 a. m. (AST) for the west side of Cook Inlet north of Augustine Island and remains in effect until 2:00 p. m. (AST). AVO has received no confirmed reports of ash fall.

If you are running a k&n filter do not oil it im a desert rat that lives in what we call poof dirt its like powder the oil in the filter makes it clog faster run it without till it done blowing its top im a harley mechnic and seen alot of engine problems because the k&n oil chokes the motors but as soon as the ash stops change the oil run it 100 miles change it again, oil is what makes a motor live and last a few bucks in oil and filters could save your rig as long as the ash is in the air at least clean your filter once a week and least check it every other day all the filter oil is going to do is make a mud bath all the desert racers out here never oil there filters and if your really worried stick a nylon over it :)

I remember reading that after St Helens, the best air filters were the oil bath type. when clogged rinse with kerosene, change oil.

I was in anchorage for the mt redoubt volcanos I had obligations to meet during the ash cloud I changed air filters regulary it did not help. that ash is extremely fine and gritty and gets into everything electric motors in your rig. inside the interior power seats motors 2 years later every seal every gasket leaked oil. this was a beater truck. I would not drive a nice car in that ash knowing what i know now

just my opnion
