OK guys... you've heard it all before and here it is again... (see sig for truck specs). . My muffler is toast... and I want to fix it without spending alot of money or having to deal with all "ll" muffler shops that I have gone to in the last 30 days telling me that they cannot touch my truck because of the "CAT"... I want to lose the CAT once and for all and at the same time get rid of the internally chewed up stock muffler... I would prefer that my truck sound like an 18-wheeler than have to rattle at an idle... I would really like y'alls input... and yes, I sent Ted Jennetty an email about this already.
Thanks for your patience with a "probe TDR member!!!"

Get a muffler eliminator (ME) kit from Genos garage, and get a cat test pipe from your local Dodge dealer. This will give you the straight pipe that you want. If you want to keep the cat for looks, remove it, knock out the guts, and put it back on with the ME kit.

Lose your muffler and "kitty". You can order Ted's 4" system without the muffler. You will be pleased with the sound of your engine with a straight pipe exhaust (you can install it yourself). I bought the muffler in case I need it for inspection. I just inserted a piece of 4" pipe where the muffler would go so I could easily install the muffler if I have to.

The BD system is the hands-down best one on the market. I've installed all the other ones and it is the most user-friendly one out there, For one, it requires no welding, and you can also request no muffler when ordering it. It uses all existing hangers and requires no special cutting or fitting. It is an easy job and you can do it in a Saturday afternoon while having a few beers (to calm you down after you rip the old one out). To Kill the Cat, you'll probably just want to hammer it off, use a long air chisel, and slam out the innards, then re-install it and it will look untouched, but smell and sound like a full blown Peterbilt.

Well... finally put my thinking cap on and went to NAPA... asked for a 6' 3" straight pipe expanded on the ends... the guy looked at me kinda funny (I had been there a couple of times recently) and wanted to sell me a bunch of junk... ended up going to a muffler shop, walked in, and asked for a 6' straight pipe, expanded on the ends w/no questions asked. Cost me $20. Can't wait 'till tomorrow... #ad

If you REALLY are a yuppie redneck, chop it off in front of the cat,(you can put on a 45 degree bend pipe, but this is entirely optional) then go in the house and have a cappuchino. The rest will fall off eventually. #ad

All kidding aside, please let us know if it "feels" better. I want to go this route also.

Patriot, the Yuppie in me almost ordered the $600 JRE exhaust system... the Redneck in me decided $20 was more like it... The Yuppie in me also decided we could do it in the yard late this afternoon... and started taking the exhaust system off of the truck... then couldn't find the darn hacksaw... The Redneck in me got the SkilSaw out and put the metal-cutting blade on it #ad

... then called a neighbor to borrow the hacksaw after it got dark... The Yuppie will finish the job first thing in the morning #ad
