I think it's 20 years ago when i bought my last CD. After that the Music came by downloading from the internet.
And today we have even better solutions with Pandora, or Spotify and the other streaming services.
Is a CD Player not an add on that one has to pay separately on a new Vehicle today?
They are not standard anymore, right?
Once upon a time, vehicles came factory equipped with CD players.
My '97 came factory equipped with a CD and cassette player. It must've have been during a transition period. Maybe I have a rare vehicle.
There was a very brief time before the 8 track that they put 4 track into some high end cars. I think that was the mid 60's. That was one of the first times that I experienced technology going obsolete before it fully implemented into the market place. Sometime around 68-69 I put a Pioneer FM-Stereo/4 track/8 track player under the dash in my 65 289-HP Mustang along with some high-end co and tri-ax speakers behind the panels. Nothing better than no commercials when listening to the clean sound of FM Stereo radio back then, just a station call letter/frequency broadcast every half hour. Listened to a lot of uninterrupted full albums, in stereo, played over the air. Tapes were great, too, until the foil splice broke or the tape got eaten...folded, spindled and mutilated by the player.Once upon a time, vehicles came equipped with 8 track players.
There were many years worth of vehicles that came with cassette/cd combos.
We sure have. It's so nice to be able to replay immediately, or direct select, by voice even, a song and not have to fast forward for three minutes then select the correct track to play the song again...also, a huge selection on a teensy-tiny USB drive for hours, and hours, and hours of unrepeated music without carrying a suitcase of source materials.I think it's incredibly convenient today to get the desired music right away.
We have come a long way.
