Yesterday I went to leave and as I was still in house I hit the remote start twice as always. When I entered the garage and opened the door the truck was not running, not completely unusual due to distance and number of walls, not concerned i hit it the remote start again, waited for a few seconds and the truck started. I then put my fob in my pocket, I wil come back to this point. When I opened to door the radio came on but when I sat down the dash screen read Key FOB not recognized insert key fob. I have a push buttonstart. When I put my foot on the break and hit the start button nothing happened, my seat did not move into position and I could not shift out of park. Seatbelt was on. After two or three attempts the horn started blowing intermittently approximately 1 second on, two seconds off. By this time my frustration level rising fast (these trucks have an incredibly loud horn) I must have hit the panic button which increased the frequency of horn. After a couple of minutes the horn stopped and I called a friend who said maybe my fob battery was weak, I retrieved my second fob but since the truck was purchased in August I have a hard time accepting the battery as being weak. Now, let’s go back to me placing my FOB in my pocket. I carry a small magnetic wallet that holds my bills with a magnetic clip and in the three slots I keep my cards in a protective card holder that prevents the numbers from being read while in my pocket. IF my fob went behind my wallet could it be possible the signal was blocked and my truck didn’t recognize it. I normally wear my fob on the outside of my pants on a hook.

Yea, I guess there’s no way of knowing when the FOBs are produced they could have been sitting for a year or two before going into service. Thanks for your help

What was the problem? How did you fix it? I have a similar keyfob problem.

I am driving a new '18 2500 Big Horn CTD 4x4 that I ordered. I now need to learn all about ordering and programming two spare keyFobs without having to purchase them from a dealership, unless I have to or need to.

Does anyone know how to tell if on-line keyfobs are OEM quality keyfobs; and, is it necessary to get them programmed at the dealerships? At one time, you could program a third keyfob if you had the two originals. And, my keyfobs have a third, remote-start button. One aftermarket Auto key locksmith quoted me $185 for one, including programming. Ouch!

Also, how do I create and save a signature line?

Thanks in advance,

My understanding on the FOBs you need to get the code from the dealer and program with a scan tool. There are different versions of FOBs for sure the older are not all able to be used.

We have tons of FOBs from other other FCA vans, example the old 13's wont work on the 16's, I was hoping to reprogram a few spares and ran into that.

I have a 18" 2500 6.4, it has power locks but no Fobs, will be doing them at somepoint out side of the dealer if at all possible.
