Kore Steering Shock Aluminum Mount

Yesterday I was cruising down the road hit a bump when all of the sudden Death Wobble city. Holy Cow!!!! I thought the front end came apart. Stop to look at the front end did not see anything visual at first. Thought maybe blew a ball joint or wheel bearing something like that. Finally noticed the steering shock extended all the way out. All the 1/4 bolts were loose on the shock mount except 2 1/4 bolts were missing. I guess all the 1/4 bolts vibrated loose. Having no steering damping was the worst wobble I ever had.

I followed Kore's instruction when I installed the shock torque to 6ft. lbs. I doubled check the instructions to see maybe if I had forgotten to put on Loctite. I know I would have. Instructions do not mention nothing about Loctite.

I will be putting Loctite on them tonight after I go to the Nut & Bolt shop to buy 2 more bolts.

Should you use Loctite always on bolts when bolting onto aluminum parts?

Some of you that have the Kore Shock mount might want to Loctite the 1/4 bolts if you hadn't already done so.

Yes, use Loc-Tite. No problems with it in aluminum (use the correct grade for the application).

If I remember correctly, the instructions that came with my kit said to use Loc-Tite on about everything.

6 lb-ft is good for SAE low-carbon 1/4" - 20 tpi bolts.

10 lb-ft for Grade 5

14 lb-ft for Grade 8

(For fine thread bolts, you can increase the number by 9%)

After the kore steering bracket bolts backed out on me, I just went ahead and put the factory steering shock back in just to see if there would be a difference. The wheel jerking I was complaining about went away.
