I couldn't hear the same noise my truck made. The earlier video posted in this thread by another member did have the noise.

That sounded like a pretty quiet motor. What year is it? Is it a 5. 9?

Dieselnerd. . If you are willing to bring the truck over to My house this weekend I will tell what is causing the noise. Next week I am swamped.

The video 5. 9 06/07

Thanks for the offer but I don't have the noise now that I have the original OEM damper back on the truck. As soon as I took off the fluid damper the noise went away. I don't plan on putting the fluid damper back on.

After viewing/listenting to the 2 videos I could not hear my rattle/pinging sound. What i did notice was some employee has taken very good care of his engine appearance. Spotlessly clean! Did not appear to even have much rust on the exhaust manifold or heat staining on the heat shield. Wish mine could look that clean.

Bill

I have managed to keep mine pretty clean also. The use of the grille covers in the winter help to keep rain and road spray out of the engine compartment.

What I notice about the video is that the sound was never recorded from directly in front of the eng like I did. The sound is loudest directly in front of the HB - just above or through the opening in the bumper. I couldn't hardly hear it from above and beside. But it was very sharp from in front as my video attests.
I'm also wondering if it happens more with manual tranys. .

Yes it is a 06 5. 9 no jake brake. Even though we now feel the damper is not causing the noise we are still looking to solve where the noise is being generated. Again, I have a few diesel shops and mechanics working at trying to solve the issue.

FWIW, I'm running my stock, original damper with no noise. When I had the Fluidamper(s), (both of them) on the truck, and when listening with a stethoscope with open air tubes, the source of the noise was loudest at the damper itself. It almost sounded like the tone ring touching the crank sensor, or the timing cover, but there was no evidence of that after removal and inspection. Ivan, I sure hope you do find an answer because your product definitely did make a difference in reducing vibration, but I just couldn't live with the noise.

Thanks HO!

We are looking into a few differant scenarios at this time. Possibly either the gear pump or camshaft sensor are what I am hearing most from our mechanic friends from differant shops.

When I was looking for the noise, I put a mechanics stethoscope on both the CP3 and the top of the timing gear housing but heard nothing unusual. At one point I thought I could hear something through the fan pulley bearing housing. I changed the bearing ($145 f/ Cummins) and it made no difference. Of course it was only then that I though of running the eng without a belt at which point I could still hear the sound.

Its over a month from fluidampr last update any news yet?

How about the ATI in the tdr article issue 73.
Are they any good or or people installing the 6. 7 on the 5. 9.

Has anyone tried changing the cp3 pump drive gear position on the cp3 pump shaft to see if the noise changes or goes away when the fluid damper is installed?

No, i thought about it but really thats just too much of a PIA.
I would add that the 6. 7 damper is dead quiet so I question whether re-indexing the CP3 would help since the noise was coming from the FD.

I'd be happy if we could send them back for a partial refund. As it is, I think it will get swept under the rug after we all get sick of waiting for an answer.

I have an expensive paper weight that I tried to sell cheap in the TDR classifieds but I did refer to this thread in my ad. I think that scared away the buyers.

Yeah, if a hoodlum heist me on the street and gets caught, I would want just a partial refund! Mark
