My truck started this weird vibration a few weeks back. It only does it over 64-65mph and it is not engine rpm related only mph. I took it to the dealer and they said the drive shaft was bad. i know they are just throwing parts at it. So i picked it up toady and as i expected it still does it. Its very rythmic. It goes vib vib vib nothing vib vib vib nothing. It gets worse when you tow or put weight in it. anyone have this problem and a fix so i can tell them where to look. thanks kenny

One of your tires mite be going bad. A bad tire will cause vibrations at certain speeds. (You need to find a good tire man to check them out. )

If there is something wrong with the drive shaft it will vibrate at all speeds (except 0).

Well it wasn't the drive shaft as they put a new one in and its still the exact same vibration and with the new shaft if got new u joints. Its a one peice drive shaft. Its in a 3500 short box quad qab. I have had alot of tire vibrations of all sorts in the past and none of them have been rythmic like this i was woundering if they had problems with transfer case or the 6 speed auto with vibrations. Thanks for the answers everyone

Did they use he old u-joints ? Does the vibration change / go away when you are traveling at speed and you ease off the pedal just enough that you are neither speeding up or slowing ... . kinda like almost perfectly coasting?I have my wig box packaged up ready to mail . . I really shouldn't have been betting it ,it was my favorite.

The vibration stays no mater what you do netural, accel, coast, and is speed sensitive. I only feel it above 64 to 65 mph and it is almost like a switch is flipped turning it on. I will get under the truck to see if the joints where changed im just used to my mustang drive shafts and thought that they where all in one. thanks kenny.

You can keep your favorite wig box as im not a betting man

All joints look new from the drive shaft bolts, the flange to the input shaft on the transfer case. I better get some paint on that stuff before it rust up.

Maybe a belt separating on one tire ??? I had one one time , a thoughtful worker did me a favor and put around 125 psi in it and it was hopping all the way off the ground at 45 mph. It had a huge bulge on it and had stretched so far it was separating the steel belts.

Maybe it's something inside the tire, and spins with the tire when you get to 64-65 mph, creating an imbalance. At lower speeds, it stays at the bottom of the tire.

I had a bad tire like that on my work van once. But you could see it in the tire. I will have them looked at. Im dropping it off at the dealer in a few so ill let them know.

Well tomorrow the new front drive shaft should be in it. Im almost willing to bet that it will still viberate the same as before. At this rate I should have a new drivetrain by next year.

Well the front drive shaft made no difference. They did however try to rebalance my tires. They should get a new machine as it started vibrating worse with that and from 40mph and up. so i had the tire rebalanced at my friends shop and back to the same vibration. I then went to the tire store where michilen paid for 70% of my new tire purchase due to my tires starting to crack. Now i finally have an answer it wasn't the tires, but I do have a bent wheel. So tomorrow I will talk to the dodge dealer and have them get me a new wheel and see if that fixes it.

I've hauled heavy loads with a 3/4 ton before with E rated tires and really aired the tires to max. and had wheels bend from the load. I'm talking about 5th wheel trailers weighing 20k plus. This is one reason I drive a dually now. I can get by with 65 psi instead of 80 psi plus

Not sure how a wheel could bend. I have never towed anything heavier then a 6 ton tag with an 85 f350 11' manson dump. witch only lasted 20 miles. Other then that i tow my mustang and wrangler on an open 16' car trailer. Im the only driver of the truck it always has between 70-75 psi in my tires. I have never hoped a curb or other stuff. I drive my truck with care and it doesn't get beat on either. The dealer said that they dont warrnty bent wheels. But they did scratch all 4 when they balanced them. So im hoping to get them replaced anyway.

Sounds like u-joints to me. I did mine about two months ago to cure a similar vibration. It cured my vibration issues perfectly. Are you sure you got new u-joints with those new drive shafts?
