Do then non camper packages have front sway bars also?

Other than that my 02 has the overloads and the rear sway bar.

Camper Package included the over load springs, sway bars, heavy duty alternator and the plug for installing the brake controller inside into the factory harness.

camper = slide in the bed units, top heavy + prone to side winds = sway bar

overload springs = stack over + 1 thick bottom spring(?) = to handle a 3000 (guess dont have one) lbs unit in the bed

no need plug for a brake controller w camper = (may be in a standard harness) or tow package.

tow package = hitch & 7 pin rv style plug at bumper, autos may get a aux cooler. May get a larger rear (I have a dana 80), trans, etc

plow package = heaver springs up front (4x4)

heavy duty alt - 135A, I don't know what package - I have all 3 & the dealer told me all diesels get the HD package anyway. So pricing for packages may be cheaper with a diesel because they allready have it.

I bought blocks to add to the top stops for the camper springs to contact sooner. My truck doesn't come close to touching them evey with a loaded trailer. and it just looks bad with the rear down alittle due to the 2" leveling kit

dodge = 2" low in front

leveling kit = level empty

loaded (stock) = level

loaded w/leveling kit = 2" or under lower in rear depending on load

Camper package was a great value on a new truck (approx $200) but was droped ( I think 03+)

As for front sway bars

2x4 = yes (may be larger with packages-don't know- have 4x4)

4x4 with solid axles = no

OK thanks, I guess I need to crawl back under the front. Sure looked like a sway bar the last time was under there.

Jim

You can see the sway bar from the side in the wheel well also. I have never seen a Ram without a front sway bar, I cannot believe they came as an option. The truck would be fun to drive with no front sway bar.

SCCA solo II autocrossers take them off to lean around the cones better. (off topic -neon, srt-4 & PT's can have FRONTS 19, 22 r/t-acr, 24 SRT-4 & 26 pt conv ans REARS are none, 16, 17 srt-4 & 19 r/t, 22 aftermarket, 80's Shelby chargers were heaver than non Shelby's.

The reason for the above is If you can get a slightly heaver bar (larger diameter) from a different pkg (eg 2500,3500) if you think you have to much body roll & your schocks are good.

I WAS WRONG -newer 4x4 also have a front one. (my 85 doesn't)

part numbers for 2001

2x4 1500/2500/3500 #52038455

4x4 1500 #52039440

4x4 2500/3500 #52113551aa

I am looking at the window sticker for my 2001 right now. It says:

Trailer tow group. - $275. 00

Heavy Duty snow plow prep group. - $185. 00

Camper special group. - $95. 00

-Stabilizer bar rear

-Springs rear Auxiliary

It doesn't say anything about the front stabilizer bar. Mine has one.

Plus the 136a alternator & auxiliary transmission cooler is under the diesel engine option. -Jason

update I had 2400 lbs of coal in the bed and the camper springs were not touching yet (about 1/2" front perch & 3/4" on rear perch clearence). With a few gal shy of a full tank and me (190 lbs) inside the cab the truck weighed in at 7260. I have a plow mount & custom steel bumpers. I was 860 lbs over my 8800 GVW running on "D" load rated winter tires, made the 10 mile trip just fine. Next pick up will be with the "E" tires. I should have scaled just the front axle... . so I can add the plow weight to it.

they killed off the camper packed for the 3rd gens because they rough back the SRW 3500 but still no rear sway bar. I just added one to my 3500 and its nice.

Yeah, basically the HD 2500 is equivalent to the SRW 3500. I do know that my 02 came with better tires than my bosses 3500. Even though his truck was rated at 9900 and mine at 8800. His tires were rated at 3195 lb and came with 3415 lb rated tires.

Go figure... .
