Appendectomy

Whitmore

for my wife's ten year old grandson. His name is Justin Evans and he lives in New York state about as far north as you can go. Normally a happy vibrant kid, he was sent home from school on Tuesday with a fever. He had four teeth coming in and they thought that was the reason for the fever. He seemed better through the evening then about 2am his father heard him moaning in bed that he could not move. He found him convulsing as in a seisure and with high fever. He got the fever down by sponging him then took him to the hospital. He was diagnosed with lukemia and taken to a children's critical care hospital. This is the latest news.

"Justin' has All Acute Lymphosemic Leukemia -he is rated this way per the doctor:

There is a low/med/high/very high levels-- he is already at the high to borderline very high levels.

He will require up to 2 years of treatments. He has it in the blood and the bone marrow at this time. He will be getting 20 different kinds of med's at this time and meds in the spine as well. He will need 2 spinal taps a week, and bone marrow testing every other day. And he will be in the intensive care center for at least 29 days straight of this treatment so far. They now have a tube in his chest to give chemo. So it's going to be 4 weeks so treatments and he is already getting morphine for the pain. and the meds will be given 4 x a day and 4 x a night. He is located in the intensive care unit in Room #20. "

Although he is not a blood relative, I love him just the same. He is my buddy and always rides with me when we need to go someplace when he visits. He likes it when I bypass the driveway and take the field down to the township road. Heh Heh.

Anyway, the family would appreciate a prayer for him. And for those of you with kids, give them an extra hug because you never know. TIA

He's got my prayers. Been there with my own and my grandkids. Think positive! A kid in my grade, in the 60s whipped leukemia - Justin can do it too.

QRTRHRS,

My wife and I will keep him in our prayers. Hope you don't mind, I sent your prayer request to some friends.

My prayers are with you. My 25 yr old niece just had a new valve put in her heart to replace a defective one that she was born with. As she got older it got worse. Hopefully she will get to go home Sunday.

I spent many a summer in St Lawrence county. Ogdensburg, Messina, Heuvelton, etc. etc. Beautiful part of the country up there.

My Prayers are with Justin and his family.

Prayers for Justin

My prayers are with you my friend. Why does it happen to the young and innocent children I'll never know. May the good Lord will be with him!

Thanks for all the kind words. Via the internet, there are prayer being said and passed around all over the country. Justin has already started chemo. Then more drugs to combat the chemo. Not a pretty sight.

Phil, a friend put it this way today, "God needs good people too".

Eric, yes it is nice country up there, even in the winter except it give new meaning to the word cold.

Again, thanks and I will keep this post updated.

Not much change.

But, thanks for the prayers and thoughts. Other than that, there is not much anyone can do. Family and friends are doing things to raise money for the family. Those who have asked if they could do more could put money in a jug for some other family at their convieniance. There are many others families in similar situations. A little bit of left over change helps them with gas and meals, etc.

Back about fifteen years ago, Danny, the son of a close friend, became the first in Michigan to receive a bone marrow transplant. Money was needed to pay for the transplant, because the family's insurance would not pay for what was considered an experimental procedure, at the time. All of Danny's friends and family helped organize a huge fundraiser to help with the huge medical bills.

Danny lost all of his hair, and was very sick for a long time, but slowly, with lots of support from his friends, Danny pulled through it all. Danny grew up, went to college and now works for a newspaper in Northern Michigan.

Bone marrow transplants and treatment for Leukemia have come a long way in fifteen years, but love, friends and prayer will pull Justin through this.

We will pray for a quick and comfortable recovery for Justin.

Doc,

That does sound very much the same as with Justin and what the future holds. As of tonight, he is stabilizing and was eating a little and holding it down better.

I need to talk it over with his father, the rest of the family, my accountant and lawyer about setting up a fund. Anyone who has some insite to offer on this please do. I need to downsize my "herd" anyway so I am going to look into selling, auctioning, etc. a couple of my horses off to help out.
