Great weekend! I just got home (8:45pm) #ad

Stopped to check out a Cave on the way home, so you'll be blessed with those pictures too. I'll post my pix here when I've finished uploading them to my "ISP". #ad

Thank Aron, Ray, and Dave for putting this all togeather, it was a Blast! I had a lot of fun, even though i spent most of the time under the hood! But it sure was worth it!! Also thanks to Dave Goerand for the use of his shop and dyno. Can't wait till next time. Hope to see you all soon.

I just wanted to say thank you to all who made this event possible. (esp Dave Goerend, Dave, Ray, and Aron. ) I was sorry I had to leave so early as the guy who was coming to lok at my boat never showed. Hope we can all get together again soon. Thanks again to all.

Eric

Thanks for coming, folks! We saw another beautiful truck with an impressive run Sunday afternoon. We also watched a drag car on the dyno putting out 220 Hp. - no weight, and the slicks were cool to touch. (But the noise didn't begin to match our Cummin's song!) Somehow we need to get a pair of slicks mounted on rims that don't make the high HP trucks too wide for the dyno, and then Aron and Tony's trucks might have given better numbers yet.

Looking forward to our next event, otherwise we'll plan on seeing you all in St. Lucas next spring or summer! Ray

Thanks should go to everyone who showed up. Numbers or not, it was good to see everyone there. Special thanks to Ray and Dave for getting this started and guiding it along it's way. Ray was right, Road Warrior had a run that put us all to shame (spun the HP meter and got 2000 on the tq meter). I would also like to know how Extreme1's run turned out.
For a side note, Brent has got the Diesel bug. Do you think his wife will hate me for leading him down this path?

As far as posting numbers, post away. I'm getting over it (Thanks to Tony for keeping me from going insane). And when I get my oil analysis results back, I'll probable feel better still. And if there is no damage, I'm gonna start work on a secret weapon. #ad

Hope to do this again soon.

Saturday run: 230 HP 1350 ft-lb
Sunday run: 260 HP 1680 ft-lb #ad

Both were in drive, TC locked, at 50 mph.

I still need to install the turbo housing! #ad

I spent a bit of time on the dyno on Sunday. Tried the new overflow valve-no difference. Heat soaking the motor makes a difference. Tried 1500 rpm drive, locked TC. Speed was 40 mph. Tire slippage was an issue. #ad

Thank you Ray, Aron & Dave for "organizing" a fun weekend.

Special thanks to Dave Goerend and family for the hospitality. I hope we didn't keep Dave away too long (We left about 6:30!) We want him to be able to come out and play again next year. I learned a lot more about the automatics (again). Dave, not only are you very knowledgeable, but a great teacher as well.

Any suggestions for the next outing?

Thanks to all for a great time. Really enjoyed meeting all of you. Definately have to do it again sometime. Sure is beautiful country up there... Just curious if anyone re-dynoed Sunday, having not done any mods between the dyno runs, and got different HP numbers. I'm kinda wondering if Aron and I didn't put the serious hurts to his dyno. Some of the numbers coming up were looking a little wierd after our smoke fest on Saturday. If Erics math was right (looked pretty close to me), Road Warrior's Dr. P kit, at 2000 on the torque scale, would put his HP at 505 to the ground. Is that what their Stage III kit advertises? That's a real good number for an upgrade kit. Banks could never do that (tho I bet they'd say they do). That's the first really impressive truck I've heard of coming out of a Dr. P shop, tho most of it is probably more the tech than the parts. Wish I would have been there to see it Sunday. Will definately have a camper for next year. I missed too much stuff this weekend... T

Tony,
I finally got the numbers to work Sunday afternoon so if anyone wants to send their HP reading, I can figure out their torque. It is Monday so my brain kicked in again. I figured that Road Warrior with the Dr. P III kit and the VA put him around 448 HP and 942 FT/LBS at the wheels. Correct me if I am wrong. I also went for brief tests ride out in the country and the Dr. P kit pulled very strong and very smooth with NO EGT over 1200 degrees. I was against my seat in every gear. I figured Tony at 405 HP and 870 FT/LBS will a lot of slippage. Both trucks were pretty darn impressive. Now I just need to ride in Tony’s (hint, hint).
By the way, Road Warrior, e-mail me when you get a chance.
Thanks,
Eric

Had a great time guys. Thanks again for the great event. Just got home, been getting quotes for bodywork today.

Hey everyone,
Hope that everyone made it home ok. Good thing we had a couple firefighters there because there was A LOT of smoking going on. Great bunch of people with a lot of knowledge and experience. My thanks again to Dave and Ray and don't forget Aron. What a blast. I would love to do a camping get together some time again this summer or fall.
Eric

Dieselboy25 and Fireman Dave,

I do not have a personal E-mail address other than my work computer. People have been getting time off for using E-mail for personal reasons at my place of employment. I get worried about posting on this sight very often, so I try to keep it to a minimum.
Maybe someday I'll stop spending all of my money on my truck and get a home computer.

If you guys want to get a hold of me you can reach me at 815-238-3421. Mornings are best.

Thanks, Dan

Everybody, thanks for the pics.
Nice group shot. Well done.

As for torque corrections for "at engine" numbers: take the given torque, divide by the gear ratio and then multiply that by the radius of your rear tire to the ground in feet. In the case of my truck:

1680/3. 54 (ratio) * 1. 3333 (16"/12") = 632. 7

This is for torque only, HP requires RPM info.

My brain was on vacation that day too. Sleep depravation is a wonderful thing. Eric, is that what you did?

I think tire slippage was more of an issue than we originally realized. In order to get max torque, my "properly valved" engine would have to be run at 1500 rpm. It wound up closer to 2,200. My peak would be higher if the tires wouldn't slip at 1500.

Many of the turned up trucks had high tire surface temps. The tire noise generated was also a bit of a clue of slippage.

I would be interested in throwing some slicks on some steel wheels for the next time. They probably wouldn't need to be new ones so I'll start looking for take offs. But, we need to know the width of the rollers at Goerend's in order to keep things narrow enough. Ray, can you get that for us? Does anyone have a steel wheel or two they could donate to the cause?

eric, the rollers are 84 inch i am working on buying another dyno and then have this dyno installed on a roller system and the one i have stationary so we can run all 4 wheels in rollers the one i am looking at has "split rollers" i will find out what the width is on thoes rollers and let you know. the slicks will work nice the drag cars tire temp is not a issue the tire temps on sat and sunday on the hi hp trucks were close to 190 tonys truck was slipping 20 mph at 1680 tq and his tire temp was 185 just after the run

A total of $500 was raised for Camp Sunnyside and Ronald McDonald house through our NE Iowa dyno days! A big thank you to Dave Goerand, not only for the generous donation of his facilities and time, but also for the cash donation he made above and beyond what we raised.

Who has come up with our next meeting idea?

Thanks to all!

Ray

Great news on the amount raised! Thanks again Dave G. !

Several guys expressed interest in another campout this summer. I'd be very interested in that, although my summer weekends are hard to get off work. I think having more time to visit and look at each other's trucks (and bombing) would be a good, laid back event.
