Wells makes a TPS/APPS that uses a magnetic field for its signal. No electrical contact, unlike the factory or the Timco/Williams TPS. Wells says there's will last a long time because there are no parts to wear out. Autozone is selling the Wells TPS for $215. It is a direct connection, no harness needed. Anyone out there using the Wells TPS?

Thanks
Ron

Personally I stay far, far away from places like AutoZone and Advanced Auto.

I'd go with a Timbo unit, they are very reliable and quite a bit cheaper than what you were quoted through AutoZone.

also, read through his troubleshooting tips to make sure you've covered your bases before condemning the APPS

At first I thought the same thing, but after talking with a teck guy from Wells he informed me that this product is made by Wells and sold to Autozone and Airtech under the Wells name, for resale to the public. Timbo TPS is made by Williams, he and others, add the harness because the Williams unit is not a direct fit for our trucks. The Wells unit is design specific for our trucks and is a direct replacement. Both Wells and Williams seem like reputable company's that have been making automotive products for many years.

The Wells unit has only been on the market for a few years but seems like a better design as there are no moving parts to wear out. Wells other improvement to there TPS over the Williams and the factory models is that they designed a circuit board that can stand up better to the vibrations and the heat from the Cummins engine, vibration and heat has been proven to shorten the life of other units.
Wells has a video on utube that is worth watching

So if there's no parts to wear out do they give it a lifetime warranty?

My original lasted 14 years on my 98 and as far as I know my former 00 is still running around on the original APPS (at least it was when I sold it @ just shy of 400k), so I don't think the OEM design is too awfully bad. I am not knocking what your looking at, just a little leary that possibly they are the only ones making the sensor to a different spec. If it is a part that a national auto parts chain carries it is usually because they can buy mass quantities of the part at a low cost, and the following year it could very well be a new low bidder that provides that part. They are typically not known to buy because it is a quality product. If you end up getting it, let us know what you think about the fit and finish.
