Happy VJ Day!!

How do you clean up after pooch at the campground?

Buddy at work has a 2001 1500 Ram with the little V8 and automatic. What a pig. It needs help, and as the resident "truck guy", he's come to me for advise. I dont know jack about American gas motors... can you guys tell me what to do? What brand of chip, air filter, exhaust style, transmission goodies... etc? Thanks heaps.

Cat back exhaust, an air intake system, and HyperTechs programer will make alittle more power may be 35 HP.

I deleted the link in my favorites now that I have a diesel. But I did consider BOMBing my gasser before stepping up to a real truck.

There is a place in texas that sells stuff exclusively for Dodge Gas trucks. They have exhaust, chips, intakes, throttle bodys, etc. etc. Search around there are some seriously BOMBed gassers. I will see if I can find the name and update this post.

By little V8 to you mean the 5. 2L not the 5. 9L. checkout the power curves on these two. The 5. 9 has much better bottom end and torque curve. According to these folks you CAN get the 5. 2 to have the 5. 9 power curve with bolt on stuff.

Also check MOPAR Performance catalog. They have a complete line of stuff for the gassers. The shop that installed my gassers FlowMaster 70 series, was installing Mopar Headers, hi flow Cat, 3" exhaust, flowmaster and monster tip for a guy in the stall I went in. Sounded great when they fired it up and pulled it out.

In fact now that I think about it, go down to Dodge parts guy, look through his performance catalog. I recall they had good into in there about HP increases. Make a complete list. Then get prices. then shop around to get the same stuff, from the original vendor at lower price.

Thorley Tri-Y headers, Fastman throttle body, cat back exhaust (preferably Jardine), Hypertech chip (NOT JET!!!), and a 180 stat. That should liven it up a little. BUT it will start to ping in a few months like all of the rest of the v-8's

The Dakota Mailing List www.dakota-truck.net is mostly comprised of gear-heads into Mopar gasser performance. Check it out.

Good ideas from those stated above. I had a very bombed 97 Dakota prior to my beloved Cummins. Just about every bolt on aftermarket parts except supercharger.

Pull out that 318 and install a . 030 440 with Wiesco flat top pistons, Mopar . 590 solid cam with the New Edlebrock Aluminum heads (advance cam about 5 degrees) truck is heavy, headers, Edlebrock 750 cfm carb, and he will be there;) Well at least his gas mileage will be about the same:D
