2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Need help 2nd generation power tow mirror swap

I researched all the information from the web sight,bought all the parts I would need including new power mirrors part no 82207298 from Wyatt Arp Dodge. The problem I'm having is my tow mirror bases are to small for the new mirror arms. Their is a gap where the arm swivels against the base. And the new base won't fit the old mirror arm because it is to long. I checked a friends 03 truck and the base would work with that mirror. These new mirrors were supposed to fit 03 to present. Where do I get bases that will work with the new mirrors? If I bought a new set of 2nd generation manual mirrors would they have the longer bases? Help at this point I'm lost.

My understanding was that you need a power mirror from 2003 to 2005 to put on your 2nd Gen bases. I believe the part numbers for the power mirrors from 2003 to current are all the same but there is a difference between them. I have not done the conversion but thought I read this when I was looking into it.

I did the conversion on my 02. I used the tow mirrors from my wife's 03; she liked the regular mirrors that came with it. Everything worked and matched up. I don't have any parts numbers for the mirrors, but the dealership should have the other part numbers for the power control knob swtich and the new HVAC control w/ built in mirror heater control.



Sounds like there may have been a change in the design in the arm and since the power mirror is a single part number, no one would notice a change unless they were trying to mix them.

I hope I'm answering the question: you need two sets (4) of tow mirrors in order to create 2nd Gen power/heated tow mirror set. You need a set of 2nd Gen manual tow mirrors ant a set of power/heated 3rd Gen tow mirrors. you need the mounting bases from the 2nd Gen to mate up with the 3rd Gen mirror head.



This project is a major PITA to complete. The hardest part is separating the mirror heads from the arms on all mirror assemplies w/out breaking them. There is a compression washer that holds the mirror head on the arm that you must remove and reuse. Then, the next hardest part is installing the compression washer onto the 3rd Gen mirror head to the 2nd Gen base. I used a large deep well socket (don't remember the size) to hammer onto the pivot shaft.

I think they changed the power tow mirrors last year. Do a search. SNOKING

I think the answer is that you need to make sure your new power mirrors are from a 2003 to 2005 and not the new stock carried at dealers. I belive the part numbers are the same on all of them, but the 2006 to current are different than 2003 to 2005.

When the 2006 Dodge was released their were some slight changes made to the mirrors. All mirrors for 2003 and newer mirrors have been updated to the new part number. They will work on the trucks 2003 - 2007. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a Dodge parts guy. He tried to locate a set of mirrors with the old part number anywhere in the nation. But Dodge has updated all mirrors to the 2006 part number.



The problem you have is finding someone with 2003 - 2005 that will swap their 3rd gen tow mirrors for the ones you bought. I have been looking for a suitable donor & haven't found the right truck yet.

The part number never changed just the mirrors, you'll need to find someone that will trade their earlier mirrors for a set of the newer ones.

Even if you had the old part number, it immediately supercedes to the current part number. Unless someone has back room stock that isn't in the computer, you will have to trade the newer tow mirrors for a set off of a 03-05.



I have an in at the Dealer & he has checked everywhere. NO DICE... . I have been looking for a suitable donor vehicle to swap with.

Great!!!!!!!!!!!! This is one of the things that I have been putting off doing and now it just bit me! Maybe Ebay? Or how would you know what you are buying? I just took the trailer to Wyo and had to squirt about half a bottle of wd40 into the housing to get the mirrors to move in the adjusting ball! I have the manual tow mirrors. Man I should have done this a long time ago.

Just watch around town, maybe the local diesel shop, or maybe a friend that has a suitable set of mirrors and will swap you out for the new ones. My father in law has an 05, but I keep watching for a better set (lower miles).

You could call around to Junk Yards for 2003 to 2005 mirrors. I tried EBay a few months ago with no luck.

I even have a couple of body shops watching for a good set. But for some reason everyone that wrecks their truck, has a habit of making sure they bust the mirrors... .
