Need help finding Wheels that fit right!!

I have 05 3500 4x4 single wheel and need a set of 17x10 or 17x9 one piece aluminum wheels. I bought a set of APP Villian 17x9. 5 rims and they won't fit over the brake caliper. To say the least I was a little upset. What I am really looking for is something like weld's super single II or typhoon's style with that fairly smooth look. Can anyone tell me if they have either of these on their truck or something similar. Main thing is I have a set of 33x12. 50x17 mikey thompson atz tires so I need to stick to this size rim. Any thoughts or ideas would help me a bunch.

Biggest concern is backspacing. You need somewhere between a 4. 5" to 6" of backspacing. If they don't fit over your brake calipers, then they aren't made for your Dodge. Do a search, lots of info on the subject.

I bought a set used Hummer-2 alum. wheels (17 x 8 inch ) and BFG 315s on E-BAY for a very reasonable price, and I really like them.

You have to enlarge the center hole about 1/8th inch that my friend did with his router.

I have $740 in a set of four chrome wheels and almost new BFGs.

It works for me.

Looking @ H2 wheels myself-not only can they had on ebay but contact a local Hummer Dealer and talk to them they might willing to help- they are always looking to sell the take-offs

I actually heard someone here mention H2 wheels failing somehow off road - but I hesitate to say anything about it myself as that is nowhere near documented proof. If those tires are what you are trying to fit, you may be able to go with 17x8. 5, which opens up a few options (I happen to be looking into rims myself for 35x12. 50s . . . ). Checking both Discount Tire and Tirerack showed a couple leads. And just to be clear, clearing the caliper is a separate issue than back spacing. Our calipers are just big, and the factory 17s have more clearance than many aftermarket 17s. Proper back spacing will keep them from sticking out too far. Those APP (now Shindle Engineering?) wheels are spendy - if you are in that range you might try some custom billet wheels from Boyd Coddington or the like.



American Racing is making a rim that I like in three different color options called Cannon (Dale Jr. series) or Thug (ATX series - Teflon coated) that Tirerack says fits our trucks. AR site says it is 17x8. 5 with 5 3/8 BS (15mm offset).



Discount Tire shows a few wheels, but one in particular is an 8-hole in a flat plate model (MB Wheels "72")that is 17x8. 5 with 25mm offset (which I figure is about 5 3/4 BS).



If you dig up any more specific information on these wheels or others, please let us know. Especially if you actually buy some and fit them up!

Are there any differences between the wheels from 2nd gen to 3rd gen? I am thinking about selling my Centerlins to get some Rickson's. Just wondering if they would fit a 3rd gen. They are 17x9, not sure about backspacing, but they stickout about an inch further than stock. Will have to measure them tonight...

Weld is the only one that makes the correct backspacing (aftermarket) and even then only on a very limited model line. The h2 wheels do fail off road when used hard but many here have gotten away with using them. Desertbull has them on his 3rd gen and I don't think he babies his truck :-laf

Look at Centerline wheel. I bought a set of 18X9 with 5" backspacings from them. Pic in my Photo Gallery. They have backspacing sizes from 4. 5" to 6" www.centerlinewheels.com

I did the hummer II rims as well. They are inexpensive and I was able to used a router to open them up, it was easy. They work great. I found 5 rims with tires (well used) for $350 on craigslist, they weren't chrome though. Still look good.

Weld rims are great, but they are very $$$$.

Thanks for the reply's guys this was my first post, just joining up to TDR should have done it a long time ago. I guess backspacing isn't really as much of an issue to me as just finding what will fit over the brake calipers. It seems like everyone is going to 18's, hummer wheels, or something like weld Evo series, I am not here to knock anyone's choices here but I love old school wheels such as what I think weld calls their Classic Series. I know as far as rim width anything from an 8 to a 10 I will be ok and I should stay in that 4. 5" backspace. One place I haven't done much research is with centerline. I am going to check into them. If anyone has any other ideas that would great!! Thanks again everyone for the tips so far!!

Backspacing may be more of an issue for you when it comes time to replace your ball joints!! Just a thought. Lot's of guys here feel that the wheels sticking out with improper backspacing cause the ball joints to go twice as fast... . sounds reasonable.

Centerlines are pretty much your only option if you want backspacing very close to stock. There have been a couple other members besides Black Pearl who have put 17" Centerlines on without brake clearance issues.

I thought oh boy here we go again. So if anyone has a specific retailer that they have worked with and had good luck with them I would like to give them a shot.

Last I knew Mickey Thompson only offered the same offsets as everyone else (ie, they're gonna stick out a ways).
