hi, guys i have tried the superchips and quadzilla moduels and they do give ya more horsepower but i found that they make thier biggest difference at high revs, i want to have my power below 2000 rpms, around 1800 to be exact whats the best way to get this? thanks

Try the "SMARTY". I don't know what the actual performance/ torque #'s are, but it makes my rig a rocket off the line and really improves the power/ drivability at cruising speeds. And, I get to use the code reader function ALL THE TIME... . or at least it seems like it with all the gremlins in my truck.

Ditto on the Smarty. I had a Superchips and it in no way compares. With the Smarty you can choose from fuel mileage to towing power fairly easily. You can put it on 7 and just about leave it there. Works great for me towing a boat here in the mountains where I am from. Hope this helped.

I put a Banks Otto Mind on a 98. 5, and it had more power... from 2300 up, but nothing noticeable down low. Smarty makes way more power down low. Go Smarty!!

What transmission do you have? Auto's do not want a lot of extra torque down low where line pressure is low. 2K is the sweat spot of the 24V engine.

I Am running Smarty in highest fuel only setting & comp in lowest( ez mode ) for every day driving, only move comp up for performance ( to play ), & it has excelent low end torq & can tow without excessive egt`s Note: will have to watch & not lug motor when stating up, will black out world !!!!

All Cummins engines produce at least 350 ft. lbs. of torque at idle and max torque from 1600 rpm to around 2700 rpm. That's somewhere around 450-460 ft. lbs. at 1600 rpm in an '01 24 valve automatic. A factory stock Cummins engine has plenty of torque. If you are using an automatic transmission and standard 3. 54 gears your problem is not lack of torque but bad choice of gearing.

Actually I couldn't care any less what you or others do with your trucks.

The original poster is concerned about "inadequate low end torque. " That perception is due to gearing and an automatic transmission with a loose torque converter. Magic tuner boxes will not change that.

Thanks for the disgussion guys, i learn so much from this site. i do have the automatic trans in my 01 2500. part off my problem is that i have increased tire size from 245/75r16 to 285/70 r17 with offset . now when i`m driving 100klms(legal limit here) my truck is only reving 1600rpms and at stock it will loose speed in the hill even empty. so i need more power down low but haven`t yet found it. i`m interested in what SNOKING said about an auto trans not have adaquet line pressure at low revs that a good point maybe i`m beter off leaving my truck as is and let it drop a gear in the hills! dunno thanks

my 2 cents to whom wants it.

to each there own. I'm my own warranty. and I love my smarty. now with my 37" tires I may look into 4. 10 gears. but the smarty gets the handshaker moving. and the turbo and injectors are even better with the smarty. if you have anyone around you that has a smarty to try you could do this its a simple download that can be removed. let your self be the judge of it. either manual or auto when you start adding stuff needs addressed. its just the auto's need alittle more.

Smarty is the way to smooth torque down low, I haven't tried anything that compares.

You better have your transmission ready, though. I blew my SBC Con OFE clutch in no time, I now have upgraded to the SBC DD. I can only imagine what it would do to a converter.

Personally, especially if you are doing any towing, my experience is that it is not a good idea to run at 1600 rpm, you need closer to 2K.

Yes you are right. A large portion of your problem is tire size.

Next is the trany, low stall converter and a shift kit or a full blown rebuild adding those parts will not hurt.

Boxes and tuners typically don't provide what you are looking for, a good set of ~60hp sticks (injectors) would do the trick in conjunction with trany upgrade.
