Need new tires soon, looking for suggestions

The tires on my truck are about worn out. I'll only get another 10,000 or so on them. It seems like they should last longer than 30,000 miles...

Anyhow, I do allot of highway driving usually empty. What brand/size, etc. does everyone like?

If it makes you feel any better, I replaced the stock Goodyears at 23K. Don't forget... you own a +7,000 lbs truck.

A lot of guys seem to favor the BFG A/T's.
I had em on an older Dodge truck and they're... ... ok. Maybe if I did more off-roading or something, I would have liked them more. Like their name suggests... A/T. In other words, jack of all trades... master of none. .

"So far" the Bridgestone Dueller... also an A/T tire. . has better suited my driving habits. I do a lot of highspeed highway driving (80-85 mph). Best highway/rain tire I've ever used. 80-85 mph in rain doesn't faze em. Low rolling resistance, and they are very quiet for an A/T style tire. Naturally they cannot compete against highway rib tire.

I have heard that they are not quite as impressive in snow. Which I wouldn't know because I use Goodyear M/T workhorses on the stock rims for winter months.

I would definitely get them again. I think I paid somewhere's around $130 a piece for a 285.

As far as size, I LOVE the 285's!! But available tire selection decreases. For example, I don't think Michelin makes a 285.

My truck is just like yours, only Manual and a 98 (same color even)

After the same bad luck with the factory RT's tires (Real Tired Slicks) I searched all over for tires. I was looking for a tire that would run close to 60,000 miles, be quiet, get good wet traction, and was still load range E.

I went with Cooper SRMII's (Super Road master 2's) in the stock size of 245/75/16. They work great, fit all my requirements! I have over 30K on them and they have plenty of tread left. Something to note: The Cooper SRMII has a 60K mile tread wear warranty. Cooper is the only load range E tires I have found with any warranty!!!
they are M/S rated, but I run Goodyear AT's (off my old 1500) on the back for snows in the winter, but have not had problems with the front coopers sliding. When there done, I will buy more of them I like them that much.

Plus I paid around $106. 00 each plus mount and balance.

I run the factory sugusted pressure in the front, and 35 psi in the back. There wearing real nice. In fact I only rotate them about every 15K miles.

I have run a set of Michelin LTX A/S, Michelin LTX M/S and Big O A/T. I do not recommend the Big O A/T. If you want the best highway tire which tracks well and is very smooth I recommend the Michelin LTX M/S. It should outlast any other "light truck tire" as well. I do a lot of highway miles and I get 35-40K on these.

I completely agree with highland on the Michelin LTX's. I had a set on my 1987 Ford 6. 9L diesel, and when I sold it last year the tires had 57,000 highway miles, and were no where near worn out. I speculated they had at least anoth 30,000 on them. Those were my first set of Michelins, and so I can't say from my own experience if that is normal, but Godzilla came with Michelin LTX's on him, and I was extremely pleased about that. Unless I someday decide I want a specific tire size that Michelin doesn't make, I believe I'll never go with anything else for a [light] truck tire. Don't forget to *always* get the load range "E" tires, no matter what you get. Anything less, and you won't safely be able to take full advantage of your trucks awesome hauling capabilities.

This is all just my own personal experience and opinion. Others may disagree. Enjoy your truck!

Mike, Michelin also makes an LTX A/T that works rather well. Put a set of 235/85's on my 99 dually and could see no wear after 12 thousand miles. Can't tell you more cause I traded the truck for the 01. 5 which has Goodyears on it and they suck compared to the Michelins Pete

Your tire should last 45,000 under normal rotation,I got 45,000 miles out of mine and could have gotten another 5000 for sure,on a 3500 dually,and i got cooper discoverers on it know,great traction,but kinda soft,next time I will go with michellins,I had goodyears on it from factory.
Coopers were great for the money,$540 for six.

I'm going to walk out to the truck at lunch and see exactly what is on it now. I know that they are michelins of some sort.

I like the low noise of the michelins and am not opposed to staying with michelin, but I'd really like to get more than 30,000 out of a set.

FWIW, the BFG AT KO's in 285/75/16 load range D will support more weight than an E rated 245/75/16. I have 22k on mine and have a little over half left on them.

I'm also in the market for a new set of skins. I drive a lot of miles(7K per month) and want a long lasting tire. My truck came stock with the Michelin A/S(all season) I will get 50K out of them on a five tire rotation. The tire dealers I talked with are amazed that I got that many out of the A/S. They said 30K was about average on the A/S and 50 to 60K on the M/S. The best price I have got so far is $826. 00 for 5ive tires mounted balanced tax and out the door.

If you have Michelins on your truck now, they are probably LTX A/S. Good tires - but I think you will get much more than 30,000 out of the Michelin LTX M/S. Also, I agree with previous post (sorry forgot name) stick with load range E.

Using my first set of Bridgestone A/T 285's
at 37k miles and a gross weight of 8600 pounds, they have about 65% left. I do a lot of high speed 80/85 mph, yet end up in the mud at a train wreck and have had no problems. They are good in rain, good in snow, fair in mud, and not worth a **** on ice (keep chains for that). Will repace with the same tires when I'm down to 30%. For my use they have been good, and road noise is minimal. They are mounted on 16 X 8 aluminum wheels.

2001. 5 ETH/DEE has Michelin LT265 75 R16's. My 99 had Michelins also but they were 245's I'm not sure what the leters on the side wall were. I got 36,000 towing most of the time on them. If I would of rotated them at one point I could of done a little better. I feel Michelin makes the best tire for my purpose. I have found that it's hard to beat Michelins. Running 80lbs empty out on my property I put a sagebrush branch tru the sidewall on my new truck, had to swap it and rim with the spare. The tire shop said it would not be as tuff with patch so it got demoted to a spare.

Mine came with Michelin. They are AS. I like em so much when they wear out I will replace with same. I am planning on getting some bfg mud-terrain to run on the back in winter for hunting season. I like the looks of the all terrains but I don't want to worry about the load range d instead of e. My Michelins, 16,400 mile and 10 32ths tread left. Should last 60,000 miles easy.

At 34K+ miles, I have used about 2/3 of my tread-Michelin LTX M/S 235/85/16. I've rotated only three times(Each 10K) so far but think I'll get about 50K out of them.
Since I'm in construction, they get nails, screws, etc. in them but rarely leak. Only had to use my spare once for a very slow leak. Nice tires!
I'm looking into Rickson Wheels for my Dually because 19. 5" tires used by our construction company last 100K+.

The Cooper SRMII's ride better then the orginal Badyear RT's. and there quieter then the RT's. They have a tread patteren that is like a "highway rib" which is quiet, and long lasting.

At the rate my stock Michelin LTX M/S tires are going, they will be lucky to go past 30-35K #ad
This is on a "light" 2wd. At least 2/3 to 3/4 of my total miles are in-town driving and I'm guessing that is the cause of the accelerated wear rate.
