Yesterday I went to play a CD, and I got an err message. This has been happening more and more, so when I tried to eject the cd nothing happened. Typically when a CD is left in the player you see a "pause" on teh display, but the cd player is acting like a CD isn't in there.

Radio still works fine, but my questions are:

How do I remove the trim piece (without wrecking it) to pull the radio to check it out, and does anyone have ideas on what to look for inside the cd player? Last time I worked on a DOA OEM radio it was a bad belt in a cassette player.

Thoughts?

The trim piece just pulls off, there are a bunch of clips all the way around, grab a corner and pull it out steadily, then work your way around until it's all off. If you have tilt steering you may have to put the wheel down to get it out, then there are two screws holding the radio in place. I know there is a guy on e-bay offering services to fix Dodge CD players, maybe it just needs a good cleaning.

Modern OEM CD players have "optics" that detect when a CD is inserted. If you can get someone to clean it, it may work well again. If not, it's new radio time :(

Thanks guys - I know my 2 yr old son has been pushing alot of buttons on everything, maybe there's some peanut butter and jelly sandwich pieces in there  ..... I'll have to check it out.

Try removing the fuse from the radio for a few minutes or disconnect the batteries. There are probably two fuses, one for the radio and one for it's memory. bg

I have had problems with my stock one, and finally replaced it. Just trash the OEM CD player, and get an upgrade! That's one of the best BOMB's you can do! Just my $. 02 worth...

I had the same problem with my 97 3500.

My problem was caused by the drink holders being placed over top of the radio / cd player, and evedently something at one time has spilled in the back of the radio.

I pulled it out and took the top off, and very carefully cleaned the optical lens with a Q-tip and alcohol.
