I need info on who makes the longest lasting 215/85/16 Hiway tires. I would like a good riding tire. Please list at least 3 brands if possible. Also does anyone make an 8 ply?

1996 3500 4x2.

Thanks Tim

I have almost 90,000 km on Michelin 235/85/16 XPS Traction tires on my 92 4x4 and I can probably get 100,000 km. 99% of the time my truck carries no load. The tread is fairly agressive but they run fairly quietly and I have had absolutely no problem with them. Personally I will stick with Michelins they are a little pricey but that is what I run on my vehicles. What is important to help with longevity in tires is ensure that they are properly inflated.

good tires

I also run michelin XPS tractions. Pricey but well worth it. Run heavily loaded at least half the time and these hold up well. If you want some a little cheaper try the michelin LTX (not the LT). I got 75k out of a set of 6. Rotated every 10k.

Great tires

Just put new shoes on my 1999 3500 2wd

Went with Michelins again.

Was 215/85/16 M/S

Now 235/85/16 LTX A/T

Best price $147ea installed @ costco

Comes with lifetime balance and rotation.

Speedo is slow by 3mph @ 65

Good Luck

It took me about 20 years to learn. All I run now is Michelins. They handle well, last forever (60,000 - 75,000 on a 4wd) and I can't remember the last time I had a flat on one.

Hard lesson learned.

I will go for the Michelins.

I would like for to know if the 245/75/16 will fit on the rear of this 96 model and give me 1 inch of clearence.

On the first set of Michelins that I bought for my wives old Mercedes lasted about 1500 miles. I was running about 70 mph and this redneck(no disrespect,I'm 1-2) pulls out in front of us and the sliding begins. We slid for about 60 or 70 feet .

The tires were shot. Flat spots.

But the kids thought that sliding a car was the coolest thing ever.

From that point on I said "I'll never buy an expensive set of tires again". Well that was 11 years ago. I will buy expensive tires once again.

Will it fit

From what I understand, its really tight with 245s.

Would be nice, 245/75 are same diameter as 215/85

no change in speedo reading.

I think you have to go with the new 2001 rims, offset is different.

Just my understanding.

The local Michelin rep tryed to fit some different sizes on my stock rims but the largest we could was the 235/85 16's. I prefer the taller with the 4. 10. Rumor has it Michelin is selling some 33/9. 00 16's in Europe, not here yet.
