99 QC Subwoofer Box - Fiberglass & MDF Questions - Fitmet Issue

I normally wear a 10. 5 and i am looking for new boots and my problem is they have to be saftey/steel toe and if i wear a 10. 5 they seem to feel somewhat big and if i go to a 10 then my big toe rubs on the side of the steel in the toe box area..... (these are the same boots)

So my question is would i wanna goto a 10. 5 standard width or a 10 wide width? to keep my toes from rubbing the steel...

Don't go to Walmart or K-mart! Go to a real shoe store where they measure your foot and give you the right size shoe. I was buying shoes at K-mart and getting a 10. 5 for the width. Wrong! My size is a 9. 5, E width. My feet are much happier, and so am I.

Look in your local yellow pages under "safety shoes".

Hope this helps,

You live in the City where the best custom work boots in the world are made, go on over to White's at 4002 East Ferry and shell out about $500 and buy the last pair of boots you will ever need. They will build them to fit YOUR feet.

i go through 2-3 pair of boots a year. . soles wear out and the toe caps get broken through to the steel, get soaked through with oil or diesel fuel. . not a chance i would spend . 5k on a pair of boots for the length of time they last

You must work really hard! (or at least have to walk alot and get your shoes soiled).

I usually replace a set before they are wore out.

I used to go through boots that way, also. Finally I got clued in, and haven't had to buy a new pair for 6 years (and counting).

The tips I learned:

1) Regularly oil them (mink oil or other good leather friendly waterproofing). This keeps them waterproof and helps repel the fuel oil, engine oil, transmission and gear grease, etc.

2) Spend the extra $8 and buy a set of "toe bumpers" they're a set of glue on rubber "caps" that you glue on on the exterior toe of your boot. This bumper takes the everyday damage that cuts through the toe leather, and, they can be replaced when they wear out, get cut, etc.

Personally, I wear Red Wings- they fit me the best (but that's just me)

As Pete said above- Go to someone who knows boots and be properly fitted- your whole body will thank you for the support!!!

Won't wear anything but Justin here. I have tried them all and Justin has been the most comfortable and longest lasting for me.

After 30years of farming ranching and pulling wrenches in all conditions.

I finally found the best boot "For me" Try the Wolverine durashock. last longest and most comfortable on concrete for the 12 hour shifts I work.

Didn't know railroad guys had to be on there knees that much that they'd wear out the toes:-laf :-laf :-laf

no comment :-laf:-laf:-laf [you think like a railroader too - mind in gutter 24/7]

on my feet 7 hours out of an 8 hour shift most days. . when i worked nights, i was outside walking around on the rail ballast all night. . that stuff chewed up the soles. . in the shop, you are walking on concrete, but one you get into the pits, they are full of oil, grease, fuel, water...

I wore Justins for a long time, then tried a pair of Double-H work boots. Much better fit for me and the packers I have have been used and abused the last 3 years and are still structurally as good as the day I bought them. They do have the stupid distressed leather, which looked like dog squeeze after about a week. Why cant one find regular, polishable leather anymore? The Justins I've had wouldnt have held up to half what the DoubleHs have.

For steel toes, I'd get the slightly bigger size. In your case, the 10. 5. You can always get the supportive insoles to fill the gap if they turn out to be too big for ya.

I'd be tempted to go job hunting- steel toes are an insurance company requirement and as such, do absolutley nothing to enhance safety, plus they wreak havoc on your balance and center of gravity. Useless as boar-hog mammaries, IMO.

my new pair [still haven't made it to work, breaking them in at home first] is no steel [csa & ansi approved]. . all carbon fiber & kevlar. very light and pretty comfortable for work boots

DP is goin' hog wild lately with posts! :-laf

I wear Hy-test brand, buy them at Safety Solutions. They have a foam section between sole and shoe for cushion. Makes a big difference at the end of the day! ;)

Ditto on the Red Wings with toe-guards.

You have to find a shoe-salesperson who knows how to use the measuring tool properly. For years I went to the same sales-lady to buy my Red Wings, and she always measured my foot as 10. 5 wide.

The last time I went for boots the Red Wing factory rep was there, and he measured my foot. He said that I actually needed an 11 wide, and that 10. 5 was too narrow and I was stretching the boots to compensate. He was right; my size 11's are the most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned.

I got my newest pair of steel toe boots from http://www.outdoor-headquarters.com. I got the Rocky Cody Wellington's. Steel Toe and Gore-Tex 11" boot. I LOVE them. I generally wear an 11, and the Rocky steel-toe 11 was a perfect fit.

Other great boot makers that I considered and tried out:

RedWing

Wolverine

Danner
