For a few years I have wanted to install a transfer fuel tank. I searched online and found a shop in Texas, www.attatank.com , that builds their own tanks in shop and will modify the tank fills, the pump bungs and in my case added a 1.5" threaded bung for a mechanical fuel tank gauge. Great guy to work with. I ended up with a 45 gallon tank. I bought a 20GPM Tuthill, 12 volt transfer pump with a 12 foot X 1" hose and I added an automatic shut off nozzle instead of the small manual nozzle. I also added a 2" pipe threaded fill neck instead of the automotive style that used a cheesy plastic automotive style cap. I bought an aluminum 2" locking cap and ATTA added a bigger tank vent. I mounted a keyed HELLA battery cut off switch. I was able to tie into the #10 gauge wire I have running from the trucks batteries to the back of the truck that feeds my TIPM saver. I had the tank shop not weld on the mounting tabs so I could position the tank where I wanted it. A friend of mine does TIG welding so he welded the tabs on where I wanted. I made up 3 nut plates from 1" x 3/16 strap steel and welded a 7/16 nut on it. I put some 3M double sided thin foam tape on the tabs then cleaned the under side of the truck bed nd stuck the nut plates on. They aren't going anywhere. I used button top, allen head, stainless steel bolts to tie the tank to the truck bed. My goal is to be able to remove the tank without having to crawl under the truck. I ended up mounting the tank to the passenger side of the truck bed so I would have hose storage on the drivers side of the bed. Tuthill has hoses as long as 20ft. Now I can fuel my Kubota and my diesel back up generator. I added the Cummins "C" to the pumps electrical cover. Found several of those on the valve covers of some old UPS trucks....They kinda just fell off of the engines! ;) Here are a few pics.

Nice job on the tank. Can you share the details of that bung-mount fuel gauge? I have a similar tank setup and that would be a nice addition.
Thanks.

Here is the ebay listing that I bought, scroll down for the picture of the unit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331262830040?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Here is a direct read as mine is a side read. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rochester-F...407?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b00bc6467

You need to measure the DEPTH of the tank and get one of the gauges that is the closest in length to the depth without being too long. With my tank completely empty, I pumped fuel from the service syation fuel pump to each of the marks on my gauge I installed on the transfer tank. I wrote down the gallons it took to get to the mark. ROCHESTER is the manufacturer.
If you have the conventional 5 hole port like a car has, you have more lee-way on adjustment with a gauge like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOELLER-MEC..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item43cf4656e0&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the info on the gauge. I can't seem to find that gauge on the Rochester site, do you have the part number by any chance? All searches of the number on the Ebay listing don't come up with anything.

My tank sits as yours does against the front of the bed and I have a camper shell on my truck. Your gauge is the first one I have seen that would allow me to just look in and see the level. The more common type with a flat dial, which I have found several styles of, require that they been viewed from the top.

Also my bung is 2" but I could adapt to 1 1/2"

Thanks for the point in the right direction. I can only find that same gauge on ebay for some reason. I would think it would be available at truck parts vendors. Ebay shows it sold but i'll send the seller a question to see if he has others.

Nice job on the tank, clean and well-thought out.

I would contact Rochester Gauge in Texas and have them steer you to a retailer. The side read gauge is a 8660 model

Nice install.

Just for clarity that gauge you used is a Carrier part. Carrier Part Number is actually P-12-01098-04.

Thermo King does offer it under the Part Number 350-1383 in the Carrier replacement parts line. However T/K is down to 2 left and will probably not offer it after that. Gone to what they call an "ASQ" status.

More than likely Carrier will still offer it but if I wanted one I would get to it because it must be for something funky like containers or undermount gensets. Not something you see on normal truck or trailer mount units.

I just got off the phone with Rochester Tank. They are checking to see if they have any existing retailers that handle the 8660 series units. They do sell much of their product to the OEM's but have a few retailers as well.

I had her use the Carrier Number as a reference so that she can identfy the stem length in the blueprints and supply a Rochester number as well as a source.

She will call me back later today.

Just got the answer..

The only way that gauge is available is through a Carrier Dealer or as a Carrier item like the e-bay one shown above. OEM only is the way that is sold by Rochester Tank.
