New CEL code P0542, Just as I was planning to go out of town...:)

Was driving home, 75 degree's outside, truck engine warm, and "BING" on comes the CEL. Get home plug it in and it says "Intake air heater circuit high". code P0542. Called the dealer explained the leaving town, no time to come in, so I cleared the CEL and hope its nothing serious....If it comes back on, bring it in etc etc.

Any idea's what might have caused this or what it is?

Thanks in advance.

ANYONE have any idea what causes CEL code P0542 to pop up? Has since gone on the off on its own.

Bug out, I've never checked for what code is setting me trucks CEL off, but it will go off after 5-10 starts. I've had it reflashed twice, but it still will come on once and a while. The truck runs and drives flawlessly, so I think this light is more of an annoyance than anything else. Hope yours is the same.

I would check the grid heater relays, maybe one of them has welded shut. You may be able to disconnect the electrical connection to the relays to stop the code from reappearing until you can positively identify the cause?

She goes to the dealer tomorrow. I'll let you know what they say. It, the CEL goes on and off at random times with no rhyme or reason.

There apparently was something wrong inside the air heater grid element on the intake side. The tech notes says "something was rattling" inside the unit. Testing was ok, electrical etc but whatever was loose in it was causing the CEL P0542.

I'm rebuilding my faith in my local Surprise, Az dealer. Todays visit was good. :).

A reflash of some sort was done to the radio and now I cant get my blue tooth to work. Will try tomorrow. All is well otherwise....

Wait a minute...something was rattling??? What the heck was it? Then they re-flashed something and now your bluetooth is not operational? Bug Out, your faith in this dealer is being restored by the outcome of today's visit  ? I surely must be missing something here, or you are just naturally, entirely, too easy to please :) .

That, or, just the opposite, I'm too fussy and expectations far too high...but I would not be satisfied with a dealership visit as you described, Sorry :D .

If you knew the history, You'd know why I said that..:) Apparently when your RAM is in for work, the techs are supposed to check and see what up dates you vehicle needs. She still "FLARES" like a ***** in heat between gear shifts, (68 RFFE)but none the less, the CEL is off. LOL. I'm thankful the local dealer even let me in today.

The part that rattled was the heater grid relay....

@ Slingshot, the only numbers I find on the text of invoice are 18-60-02-AG and the other is RRT 14-006. one other says 14-011. Not sure which is what...

I'll poke around the board here and see what I can find. Thanks.

With the key in the on position, got through the radio's menu and settings, there will be a screen come up that show's the firmware level. The latest is a 50.xx.xx
