New dumb old man on the block!

Been mooching off you guys for years. I figure its time to tell you thanks! I

have a couple of pretty decent 92 w250s. One has 97,000 mi. the other

152,000. Neither of them has any rust to speak of but the paint is starting to peel in a couple of small spots onthe silver one I brought up here to Alaska

from north eastern Washington in 2001. This truck was my first CTD and is a

standard cab with a 5 spd Getrag. I towed a 3o ft travel trailer up here to

North Pole and 5th gear in the getrag has been a little noisey since. I learned

from the old timmers from tdr about adding the extra quart of oil to late! I

cant afford to take it to the garage every time something happens so Im

asking you guys to help me along with your feedback.

Gentlemen I love my trucks and thank you for all your help over the

years it has saved me a lot of $ although the only major thing Ive done

with the silver one has been rear axle seals and acouple of U-joints cant

complain! still has the original brakes! BUT NOW its leaking brake fluid

and seems to be around the master cylinder on both trucks. I need the whole nine yards of your expertise so I can do this myself. THANKS!

If you have been a reader for a while, you know the more info you have in the signature the better.

There are more than a few 'geezers"( me included) here so that is not a problem. My experience has been the same as yours, lots of good info and serious knowledge from some smart folks.



My story is that I bought a 1stgen powered motorhome that was almost useless and folks here have brought me and it along until it is now a pretty useful vehicle.

Only grumpy response I ever got was when I didn't ask for help soon enough. So welcome... start at the front bumber and work your way back with questions.

If you are into this kind of work, you can get a rebuild kit far about $15. 00 plus tax. If you have a brake cylinder hone and a drill motor to turn it, the only other special tool I can think of is a small internal snap ring plier. If not then I would go with a rebuilt unit. bg

Is the brake fluid leaking in the cab or outside? If in the cab, rebuild or replace. If it's outside, try to replace the rubber that goes in the cover 1st.

I did that with mine and it quit leaking. I was dreading trying to find a good quality MC, after reading all the posts about bad remans and such.
