Breakin in at 10K miles

I deleted the other short thread on this subject because it was confusing and it wasn't to the point.

My truck has 5500 miles and it runs perfectly - strong and 18 plus mpg (empty).

After startup and ten or so miles the gauges go dead (all except the speedometer). After a couple more miles all the gauges come to life and the 'engine' light comes on. It runs fine and doesn't miss a beat. If I cycle the ignition 3 times the odometer reads "P PCU" and the 'engine' light goes off. After awhile it will do this all over again.

I fear the dreaded dealership re-flash of the ECM. I don't want to lose performance or mpg. Thanks in advance. Joe

1693 indicates a fault code in the ECM and PCM.

1694 indicates a bus communication failure to the PCM.

You could try making sure the wiring harnesses are secure to the ECM and PCM. Since the indication is a bus failure that may be your problem. With that few miles, I'd let the dealer check it.

I'm looking through my troube code list, and I agree with Alan on checking the ECM to PCM connections.
