The reason they have you click on a quick reply to activate that window is for the threaded view. Go to this post and you'll see what I mean - http://www.dieselregistry.com/forums/showthread.php?p=975105&mode=threaded#post975105 . Look at the post list near the top and you'll see that replies are listed under the post that they replied to. In order for that to function you have to click on which post you are replying to. I'm not sure how much use the threaded view will get but it will be interesting to see. You can change which display mode you are in by pulling down the display mode in the upper right.

Steve I just noticed that at the bottom of the list of threads it shows description of the icons preceding the thread title. Shouldn't the icon for "Hot thread with no new posts" be a closed envelope with flames? I just noticed it because it looks like all hot threads have new posts.

Your right, it's an error in the template - I'll fix that right now, GOOD catch. I'll also look into changing the preview feature to the way it's working now. I wrote the current preview feature which is why it works differently than theirs. I agree that just coming up on the link works better.

Ok, "Hot thread with no new posts" icon is fixed and the preview feature now works only when you point at the subject itself instead of that entire cell in the table.

medium cyan - easiest on MY eyes.

I appreciate all the effort going into this but I much prefer what we have now - it's probably an old dog new tricks thing. Simplicity is difficult to achieve.

I would like to see the borders around the post smaller so that the post are closer together. Other that very nice with lots of good features.

How do you activate the quick reply? I logged in and still don't see a button or link. I like the quick reply and use it the most.

BTW, the red is not my favorite.

Definitely like the new look though.

Ultimately, it isn't that important... the current look or the new look. As long as we can peruse and post easy enough, the rest is just fluff. Oh and navigate to the last read post is important. I like that feature in the current software too... keep that for sure!

Thanks for the hard work Steve!

I've closed up the spacing of all the borders and spacers. All the spacing was the default of this skin which we purchased from a skin developer and then I customized it significantly. There is now a lot less "dead" space.

The Dark Red style was one of the colors we had looked at originally. Since the feedback has been overwhelmingly against the brighter red I've made the dark red the default now.

The last icon on the right on each post is the quick reply button. It looks like a piece of paper with a swooping arrow coming out of it.

Waiting till you fix the Opera problem. Thanks for supporting it.

Don

Uh, don't thank me yet. I'm going to try to get it working but there are no promises.

Ok, it looks like I was able to fix the Opera problem. Running v7. 53 of Opera it now works fine for me. Give it a try please. There was a new release of the menu generation software that I'm using 4 days ago. The release that I was using was about a month old and was supposed to work ok with Opera but obviously didn't.

Also give Konqueror a try now please.

Steve,

Great job on the new site! The only issue I've come across is when you click on "View Reader's Rigs", it takes you back to the current (old site) TDR homepage. Thanks for all the work you've put into this update.

Dave

That's on purpose RabidRam - the only software on the test site is the forum software that way people didn't put information into the reader's rigs, travel companion, and classifieds that would be lost in the conversion. All of the links outside the forum take you to the TDR site. All the other software will be staying the same for now, btw. Only the forum software is being updated right now (and let me tell you - it's a HUGE job).

Steve, using WIN 98, SE, IE 5. 5, w/current patches. Zone Alarm Pro. Everything working fine but keep getting "Done, but with errors on page" message on bottom scroll pane. Something is interacting with browser differently? (or is it me?)

Also, experienced no response with the "back arrow" function, would not operate, but clicking on redirect menu buttons did work ok.

Wish you worked for my company's IT group.

I'm not getting any errors on the page in IE5. Try disabling Zonealarm and see if it goes away. I bet the back arrow function will work with Zonealarm off too. ZA gives webmasters more problems than any other package out there.

Well, we're doing a little better with people checking it out. 54 people out of the 2750 that have visited since I put the test site up  . Thanks for those of you who are actually taking a look and providing your input. I'll leave it to ya'll to chastise those that complain after it goes live ;) .
