New guy help! What do these mean: ETH,ETC...

You've ordered the ETH (High output engine) and the DEE (6 speed). I have ordered the ETC (standard CTD (Cummins Turbo Diesel)) and the DDX (5 speed). These letters are the order codes that your truck is being built to. You can see a list of them at www.edmunds.com. HX40 is the turbo charger used on some models, but I don't know much about them. EGT is exhaust gas temperature (at least it is in an airplane). The codes I have trouble understanding are the ones for all of the aftermaket mods.

Ken is correct: EGT stands for exhaust gas temperatures. Let me be the first to strongly suggest you get EGT (also called pyrometer) and boost gauges. Even if you won't be BOMBing (Better Off Modified, Baby!) your new truck for some time, or at all, these two gauges are invaluable in helping you become familiar with what the normal operating conditions are for your specific truck.

And if you do BOMB, the EGT gauge can save you from melting pistons. When you have the EGT gauge installed, if you only do one EGT gauge, it is most highly recommended to install the probe pre-turbo - meaning between in the exhaust manifold between the engine and the turbo. This way, the EGT gauge will show you temperatures much closer to what is actually in the cylinders than if the probe is post-turbo.

Your truck comes stock with the HX35 turbo, by the way. The HX40 is a larger turbo, and commonly used by those of us who BOMB more extensively to get the high HP numbers.

Dito on the gauges..... here we go on some others.....

Computer Boxes:

VA,VACPC, BD plug-n-play are all the same computer add on box. I believe this box just adjusts the timing.

PE - Power Edge, three level adjustable fueling box... can be customized.

PE EZ or Just EZ - a different box built by Power Edge. It adjsuts the timing and adds a small abount of fuel. There is a version of this box that DD (Diesel Dynamics in Vegas) sells that has a level on it for just timing.


TST Powermax - don't know much about these other than there are like three or four different ones and they are fueling boxes.

There are more. . I just can not recall them.

Injectors:
Disesl Dynamiscs makes a bunch of different ones, you will see them referred to as DD1,DD2, DD3. These are differnt levels of power. . basically bigger holes in them.

Bull Dog makes some too... . seen them as BD1, BD2... . you get the ideal.

275's or RV injectors are Bosch factory Manufactured 275 hp injectors. They are commonly used in RV's that have the same engine as our trucks.

I could go on about some other stuff...

DDT TC/VB that is the Diesel Transmission Technology Torque Converter and Valve body. . got an auto... . this is the way to go if you are going to add power... or even if you aren't.
