the recall fix is a weld on the jam nuts . ya some people are sucessful in getting the new updated part if you pester fca with a hundred phone calls but who has time for all that nonsense. buy the part. put it on. done.
or just keep roaming the forums complaining to any poor sapp that will listen about how crappy fca and ram trucks are

then why are you here, sir ? complaining about people posting about their trucks and experiences... if reading about that irritates you then go somewhere else. cheers ! :)

whats the point of crying about it. if you dont like fca , the truck ,how they handled it , sell the son of a beatch and go buy something else.
further more , does nobody own a single hand tool to change it yourself on your own schedule . its a metal bar with a nut on each end. ya youll need a puller and torq wrench but surely youve got a neighbor ,uncle ,freind ,brother , enemy , third grampa , you could borrow the tools from.
i guess the "do it yourselfer" in me gets a bit fired up when i see people that dont even try to help theirself.
call me crazy , stupid dumb , idiot. call me everything in the book. i bought the link myself. put it on myself . went on with life as if nothing happened

This is the very first RAM pickup I have owned new. Every single other new vehicle I have owned was able to have it's first alignment done after the suspension settled in paid for by by the OEM.

The battle to find a dealer that was able to figure out the alignment procedure from FCA Bluntly: Are you kidding me? My selling dealer can't figure out an alignment?

Further the dealer that put the part on this RAM pickup had to sub the alignment out TO THE CHEVY DEALER because their alignment rack isn't long enough.

"Buy the part" is not workable advice as the part has had spotty availability, refusal to sell due to being needed for recall repairs, and several part number revisions. You might have noted this mentioned on here. Who has the time to track down the part number revision FCA is actually allowing you to buy? :p Or what aftermarket part is holding up?

I am glad you are willing to waste your money on something RAM should be taking care of if/when you can get the part. Oh, and throw down $1100.00 for tires due to alignment problems. And the most miles driven on a new vehicle under warranty with a crooked steering wheel: this RAM pickup holds that record hands-down.

This was not and is not the plan for buying a new vehicle and taking the "hit" in it's loss of value. The point is to ONLY have normal maintenance costs rather than the "payment" made to the parts store for repairs.

No sir: I will not be selling it and taking the hit on new to used value ... I made the OEM FIX IT! And about time they did!

Now when it's time to trade you bet I will consider the GMC service experience vs. the sub-par experience above. The Cummins can only carry RAM wrapper experience so far. The RAM brand with it's exclusive RAM only stores IS a good idea and plan, but, when they can't do a simple alignment I simply am astonished. Of course they won't let me into their shop to use their equipment to do it myself due to insurance or something.

i hate to give you the bad news but the drag link didnt make your tires wear out. sorry

heres whats involved in a ram alignment. theres one adjuster on the driver side of the tie rod for toe. one cam bolt on each radius arm for caster. thats it. many people do the adjustments at home with a tape measure as its not complex

When I saw the post by cummins12v98 indicating that there was finally a part reliably available I called FCA at 1-800-853-1403 and plead my case with the gal on the phone. I was given a case number and about a week later was contacted by another rep that I told I really didn't want my steering welded together. So since they clearly have a part available now that fixes the issue properly other than welding my steering together, is there a way to get it put on my truck? They agreed to my request as long as the part was shipped to my dealer of choice where it would be installed at no expense to me but my time. Should be good to go in three weeks. Just had to be patient and keep an eye on the nut. We'll see how this all shakes out but I'm encouraged.

The lack of alignment, RAM Dealer service refusal to do an alignment due to the welded parts, may have 'cone shaped' the tires causing radial pull as described here:

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=12

You are correct that the drag link shouldn't matter, yet, the welded drag link parts clearly caused refusal to do alignments. Bad alignment WILL ruin tires before their time. o_O

Meanwhile the Radial Pull has the steering wheel going down the road like this from ~5000 miles (first tire rotation) to ~18,000 tire wear out. First alignment was "caster out" around ~9000 miles and aligned 3 more times in the next 3000 miles attempting to resolve the pull. Likely the above first dealer's inability to do an alignment continued to wear the rotated tires past the extremely short radial pull wear limit on the Firestone tires.

Replacing the tires immediately eliminated the off center steering wheel.

Apparently there was more than one tire causing a radial pull and thus beyond the experience of the tire store I use. With the above problems getting alignments done it made it impossible to determine if it was tires or alignment. Hindsight being 2020 it may be the alignment was the initial problem: with lack of before/after numbers as the dealer did not give me printouts of the numbers.

Now that this is all recalled, updated part, and NOT WELDED: I could take it over and align it to the Thuren specs at any good Diesel alignment shop without concern for being turned away over the welded parts.
