My concern with this fix is, the safest way for this to be preformed is off of the vehicle. The guy welding isn't certified to weld. for those who weld both as a hobby and occupation know way to many things could go wrong! Too much heat, too little heat and current affecting the electronics that are in these trucks! FCA should replace with "new" style drag link. You cant be held liable for not having a recall done on your truck when you sell it. New owner can go to dealer and have it tack welded if they choose. JM2C

Ram will be lucky to survive the FCA/Peugeot merger. I think they will. Ram and Jeep and...... That's about it.

I think everything else will be swept into the dustbin of history. Gonzo. Totally.

The reason I bring it up is because they're not going to put any more money into Chrysler brands than they absolutely have to until they figure out where they're going.

Peugeot is notoriously Euro-Centric and Europe is harsh on US Auto imports to Europe while we're pretty good to them. Except on trucks and vans.

It's going to be interesting and I don't believe FCA (or what's left of them) is going to come out ahead in all this.

That’s why I keep saying we all should pool our money and buy RAM an Jeep . Save the company. I’m not smart enough business wise but there has to be someone in our ranks....

I've had the boot at the pitman arm end of the Synergy bar rip open twice so far. My truck is almost entirely on road so no excuse for that. No problem with the third one yet. It is also a little difficult to grease (the grease fitting on the pitman arm joint faces upward) and it takes a lot of torque to tighten the adjustment clamp. I have yet to get the clamp tight enough that I couldn't still twist the bar. Not that it is going anywhere, it can only turn a few degrees one way or the other, I just feel it should be clamped solidly in place. Otherwise, no problem.

I will update and correct myself here as new information showed up in the mail. I received a W49 Recall Notice due to these "parts" the dealer used during my last alignment.

The W49 Recall tracking is a total failure from Stellantis, formally: Chrysler, FCA. They had no record of this July 2020 letter being sent to me or any open recalls on the 2018 3500 RAM pickup. I called the number in the Owner's Manual and eventually reached a live person. They had me send them the letter and the dealer service record where the recalled parts were used. I also sent them the tire replacement cost and partial "courtesy" warranty Firestone provided. They declined to help with the tire cost.

Finally I have the updated part on my pickup.

Part Number Description
CSZHV061AA DRAG LINK-STEERING

Retail looks to be $118.00. $81.14 online wholesale from MOPAR parts sellers.

I am NOT real pleased about the "What's in Your Wallet" this joke of a recall has caused me in tire cost and ~15,000 miles of radial pull. This has been a problem since the first tire rotation at ~5000 miles until the TrashForce tires were replaced: at the wear bars in under 20K miles. Along the way my selling dealer refused to do an alignment due to the weld so I found another dealer. I spent all day at Discount Tire until we identified one tire causing the pull. The radial pull went away the moment all four tires were replaced. More than one tire causing the pull apparently. The Firestone Transforce "TrashForce" wore so fast that at ~5000 miles Firestone said there wasn't any warranty left for Radial Pull.

I will give RAM credit for ultimately fixing it properly. But goodwill points are lost in the PIA to actually get it done with the boilerplate "we welded it it's fixed". Time from new pickup purchase to get it done made warranty on tires impossible. The Dealer's hands are tied by Stellantis so you have to go through Stellantis to get it approved: THE DEALER CAN NOT DO IT, PERIOD. Only when Stellantis/RAM gives them the "OK" and ships the dealer the part can the dealer do this for you.

Further goodwill is lost from FCA/RAM using the old parts the first time I made them align the pickup instead of the updated part. New old recalled parts that triggered the W49 in the first place.

This is one of three notable problems I have had with the 2018 RAM. Random not starting till I remove key try again with same key and the unrefined "Where is 1st gear" Aisin shifting (Software updates have improved but not solved it.) have been the other two.

Mine was replaced under warranty this last Summer. No difference from old to new in steering. They said the ball joint end was worn.

Your JB Weld failed you????

HE!! no!

I had my son under the truck and I was turning the wheel left to right and he thought there was some play in the track bar. Mentioned it to the dealer when they were to take my truck in for the trans case leak. They looked it over and said one of the ball joint ends was worn but track bar was good.

How is the updated drag link holding up for everyone who got one under the recall or it came from the factory with it? I bought another two boots for my Synergy drag link a little while ago. One of them is on it now. I suppose I have a a little while before that one rips (if it is not already ripped) then the last one and I will be looking for another option.

Did FCA reimburse you for the Synergy drag link? If not, go get the recall one installed.

I tried to buy that part number, however that is the internal "recall" one for dealers only to install. I had to order a different part number and the price on that one doubled right after I got mine. Look back in the thread. I installed my own RAM one and FCA paid we for the parts, but not the shipping.

whats the point of crying about it. if you dont like fca , the truck ,how they handled it , sell the son of a beatch and go buy something else.
further more , does nobody own a single hand tool to change it yourself on your own schedule . its a metal bar with a nut on each end. ya youll need a puller and torq wrench but surely youve got a neighbor ,uncle ,freind ,brother , enemy , third grampa , you could borrow the tools from.
i guess the "do it yourselfer" in me gets a bit fired up when i see people that dont even try to help theirself.
call me crazy , stupid dumb , idiot. call me everything in the book. i bought the link myself. put it on myself . went on with life as if nothing happened

My truck is under warranty. Why in the hell should I pay out of my pocket for parts that are covered under warranty?

or just keep roaming the forums complaining to any poor sapp that will listen about how crappy fca and ram trucks are
