I’m thinking for this to start separating BOTH nuts have to come loose???

Couple pipe wrenches or 16” Cresent wrenches will be plenty tight. Use a couple cheater pipes as my alignment guy did in mine.

Guy on another forum told me his was loose on one side of his 18.

Just checked mine are tight.

Entered the VIN for my 2011 3500 DRW into NHTSA website, not part of this recall.

There might be different stages of recall that bring in different years. But they might neglect the 2011-2014's even if they need the recall. Sometimes they wash their hands of the older models

The adjustment is only for steering wheel centering. I have no problem with them putting a tack weld on mine, but it seems like there would be a better alternative, especially for those dealers that don't have a welder lying around. I can't imagine they will dispatch a certified welder to every dealer that finds one loose. Once they have the details worked out I guess we will know.
And yes, you would know something is wrong when your steering wheel goes WAY off center.

Yup, this one caught me by surprise while dropping off my truck this morning for completion of the water pump recall. Wasn't aware of another outstanding recall; too early to have received any mailer on it. That will teach me to check the on-line resources before the next dealer trip. The Service Manager indicated their preferred fix is to replace, not tack weld. We'll see if the technician takes a different approach. Doesn't really matter to me which way it's fixed since I have a lifetime alignment package with the same dealer and, yes, we've had the discussion about what constitutes proper toe/castor settings for this truck.

Put mine in there, and I am on the recall, 11th recall to date on my 2014 :) I have kept an eye on those nuts ever since I read about them coming loose , and the steering wheel getting off center, and especially since the R46 recall

Wayne, they want to weld the adjustment nuts to the sleeve, thus rendering the drag link non adjustable. That’s ridiculous. Got a warn part? Replace the whole drag link. Hit a hole and want to straighten your steering wheel? Replace the drag link. It renders the link useless for one of the two purposes it was designed for. I guess it just goes on the list of recalls I’ll never allow a dealer to perform.

Exactly, ridiculous, it has built-in adjustment for a reasons.
Glad I saw this, I'll be refusing this repair!
Just last week I centered my steering wheel to my liking after mounting new tires.

This recall appears to me to be one of those that Mopar has done to protect themselves from frivolous lawsuits. Every little thing seems to warrant a recall these days. For those people who are two dumb to notice that something isn't the way it should be like a steering wheel going off center. I have had several recalls on my truck and have let just about all of them go. I took it in for the alternator recall. I wonder if they put a 220 amp alternator in the replace the original one or just installed the lower rated one. I took my water pump recall in because I was able to determine that I had the problematic one. For this recall I am not going to bother, I will check it today but I already know it isn't coming apart! Don't both jam nuts have to come loose for it to unscrew? OMG we have become a nation of idiots? Sissies? Or?

Feel somewhat the same way, but the track bar, water pump, and probably a couple other ones out of the 11 I have had , I think were necessary.

I'm curious what's different about the new assemblies they are going to replace the old one with? It would seem there are only so many ways to skin this cat. I wouldn't want mine welded, that would seem like a one way road that you can't easily go back on in the event you do need to adjust it in the future.

That being said I do know people who have vehicles who could be oblivious to things a steering wheel changing position gradually over time. My sister has a brand new Subaru and the first time I rode in it it had a howling noise that was a rear wheel bearing going out that she hadn't even noticed. I thought she wouldve noticed the dogs howling as she drove by but not even that perked her curiosity. I also have buddies who have the same truck as I do and have never so much as checked their own oil in it much less do any maintenance on it so for their sake, a recall is probably the only thing that would get their attention.

I think some simple safety wire will be a simple, inexpensive and reliable fix. Picture isnt off truck but you get the picture.

I was just discussing with a co worker, who has a ‘18 2500, safety wire through holes bored through the flats of the jam nuts.

Yes, jam nut to jam nut in the tightening direction. I couldn't find a picture that showed exactly what I wanted.
