I don't think safety wire is enough for something like this ...with all the forces involved?

I was thinking it should be enough to prevent the nuts from spinning away from the sleeve. The wire might not be enough to prevent the nuts from loosening a bit from full lock position, but it (wire) should be enough to prevent the nuts from spinning if installed properly. As long as it keeps the nuts in place, shouldn't this be enough? No one else thinks this would work huh?

The minute the nuts loosens a bit the drag link rod is going to be working against the threads in the sleeve each direction, back and forth. Not good, medal parts that move against each other wear.

TCDiesel - thanks for the PDF

I agree - NOT welding on my truck. On older trucks I adjusted that almost every alignment.

Since the recall states "If the torque values do not meet requirement, the drag link...." Why not just loosen the nuts before you bring it in - they were NOT tight and the whole thing should be replaced.

That nut doesn't loose if it is tighten well.
It's a normal Nut, i still don't get the rumor about that.

That would be under normal circumstances! Something with this drag link is not normal. It will be interesting to see the final resolution.

It is interesting that this is up to 2017 vehicles. The Mopar parts sites list all the same part numbers for 2018 vehicles. SnoKing

I do. Safety wired my share of bolts on F-16 aircraft. 9g's is good enough for me.

Here is a post from the other RAM/Cummins forum.

"I just replaced my tie rod and Drag link with the Synergy setup and wow, what a difference! I had ordered the parts from Ram but then they said they weren't able to sell them to me about a week prior to this recall being released. So my only other option was the synergy kit. I couldn't be happier! I nearly took a shop to court for not properly tightening my drag link when the recall was released. My steering was soo horrible because the drag link nut came loose and the adjuster was completely stripped inside. New front tires are practically destroyed and now comes the fun part of trying to get Ram to reimburse my repairs...yay!"

Not sure how that would ruin tires....the tires are aligned by the other bar...unless the front wheels were acting like a shopping cart wheel.

I was thinking the same here. It only affects the steering wheel center. Obviously wanting to blame someone else for something.

Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk

Some vehicles may have been built with an outboard steering linkage jam nut that could loosen allowing one end of the drag link to separate from the adjuster sleeve. A drag link separation can result in a loss of directional steering control, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.

Repair Description

Inspect the torque values. If the torque values meet requirement, the nuts will be welded to the adjuster sleeve. If the torque values do not meet requirement, the drag link assembly will be replaced.

Just checked my truck. Nut on the drag link (longer) side was loose. As not even hand tight. 16,500 miles on it.
