New Snoking Laramie

Both, they are pretty darn close. The stability at 80-83 is amazing, feels like 45 MPH in the 2001.5. We did 660 miles today. Starting to drive it like i stold it. Manual even says to get on it from time to time, and go tow with it.

Fun, Stereo had to much base and we had to turn that down, which confused me. So I looked under the Passemger's side rear seat and found the sub woofer. Looked again at the window sticker and found 9 speaker with sub is a standard feature on the Laramie. Lots of little other features become standard on the Laramie. Auto dim rear view mirror, auto head lights, 8.4, etc.

Darn thing is so tall we are having to learn new ways to get both in and out.

I have been driving with the seat forward a bit and raised way up. We have not yet set the two key fobs for the memory positions, however I do not in a quick look see a seat exit or entry setting like our Buick Rainier has. Is guess that would be a plus for the rear air ride, as it has a nealing position.

The keyless entry n' go feature is pretty cool. DW has not quite figured that out completely, but it is working fine for me. I guess at our ages we are entitled to a bit of luxury, as this is the "nicest" vehicle I have ever owned.

Got quite a few bugs to soak off when we get home this afternoon. 300 miles to go! Snoking

BTW, the 20" wheels and tires are a feature that we did NOT want, as I think the standard 18" Laramie wheels are the best looking of all the wheels in the line up. Snoking

Well we left John Elway CDJR in Greeley, Co on Monday at 12:30 and arrived home today (Wednesday) at 12:30.


Monday afternoon - 409 miles to Evanston, Wy
Tuesday - 660 miles to Kennewick, Wa
Wednes - 315 miles to La Conner, Wa

We named her "Cherry" for the Deep Cherry Red paint on the upper half. She talks to us a lot about going over the speed limit, which she just loves to do, so am confused about her telling us this a lot! She also says turn left or right etc. We did not think we wanted NAV, however most Laramie are optioned with it and we are now glad we have it.

FYI we stopped in Marysville and washed off 1350 miles of grim. Want to get to know your new truck right away, buy one 4 states away!

Thoughts about our three RAM pickups. In 94 or so we bought an used 93 std cab W250. I was a cool truck and I think it was really good looking. Had a big broad hood out front. Issue were no lock up torque converter and not good brakes. We mistakenly put an exhaust brake on it, however without a locking TC it was useless. We kept it until June 2001, and towed a 26' Terry 5th wheel from 97 tell we traded it in. The waste gated turbo mod really brought it to life, if one thinks 160HP engine has a life.

In 2001 we purchased the 2001.5 2500 std cab with camper and trailer options and optional 265 tires and aluminum wheels(a 3500 SRW without the badges). The big hood of the 1st gen gave way to a hood that falls away in front of you giving great visibility of the road ahead. It has been a great truck and we did not mind spending piles of money to beef up the transmission and install an exhaust brake. Our only issue was that while in Arizona for the winter we could not reciprocate rides to dinner or sight seeing. I am just finishing up going through our yacht club chairs and we will start wintering in Arizona again after two years off. And I was not allowed to go for donuts on Friday morning at 5:45. Something about waking everyone in the park.

So we just purchase the new 2015 3500. Wow, what a hood out front to learn to view over. Wish it had Parkview and Parksense out front. I am still stopping 2' short when parking it.

In retrospect we have loved all three for various reasons. The 2001.5 was only in a dealers shop for the cold winter high idle/3cylinder idle TSB, which took two trips and two dealers to get it turned on, and that was with me sitting in the cab with a copy of the TSB telling them to go to page 2 to enable it. The 93 never needed dealer service. I pretty sure that is going to now change with the 2015, and because of that we bought the 120K/8 year warranty. Have owned a lot of Honda's so that will be a real change for us. When we were buying a 2001 Accord EX V6 four door, they made a warranty run on me. I said "hold up a minute, what does the sign on the building say?" and he reply Lynnwood Honda! And I said yes "HONDA"! I was out the door shortly, without a warranty, which we never needed.

So 3 RAMs and three personalities, with each having its positive points. We opt'd for the short box on the 2015 to maintain some of the daily driver form factor that we have been accustomed to with the 2001.5. Did I say the 2015 has a REALLY BIG HOOD!

Snoking, I'm just curious why 1400 miles to Greeley to get the new truck? I would have thought there were some closer. Not that it matters really since I was probably going to get my new one at Dave Smith if I hadn't found it near Denver and Dave Smith would have been a 1000 mile ride for me. BTW, the '15 I just picked up last Friday is my 8th Dodge/Cummins, going back to a '91 regular cab as my first. The only one that was in the shop for anything major was the 2001 when the injection pump (notorious VP 44) went out. Otherwise they have been essentially flawless.

And it was marked down over 11K. We only asked for full fuel and DEF tanks, air pressure set in the tires the way we wanted them and I ride out from Denver Int. Airport. We had enough air miles to fly out first class! Yeah! Wired the money Friday, and did not see pictures until Saturday that it had Red over silver. Laurie picked us up at a hotel near the air port Monday morning. We signed the final papers, bought the pucks and wiring kit from there parts department, work a good price on the 8 year/120K warranty and got under way at 12:30. We leave for Arizona on Dec 27th so did not have time to order a 2016, and the price would have been higher. And I do not believe that you can order a 2016 SRW with the Aisin transmission right now.

There are some good deals to be had on 2015's right now. The buy back may change that shortly.

We are very happy with the deal we got. For some reason, I believe based on the build date, they had been sitting on this one for 6 months or so. Maybe people wanted a sun roof. The have two others at Elway's equiped the same. A Granite Crystal one and a Blue Streak one. Price is posted higher on those two, however money talks.

Finally after re reading this I noticed the small mirror! That is a great idea, I would stick those on also and leave the handlers down but with the big hips I don't think those would work.

Congrats on the new truck, we are happy with ours. Great color too. We searched high and low till we found a long bed, wasn't easy.
I also purchased the extended warranty due to all the electronics in these things now, you never know. Enjoy the new ride.
