Next pictures should be with the trailer hooked up for a test tow tomorrow. I am going to have to trim the front corners of the pin box turned up piece at a 45 degree and grind it rounded out a bit to insure clearance to the front box.

Here is the open heart surgery photo. I have had the front box now in 3 RAM trucks and bought the V-Box shortly after getting the 2001.5. To bad Creative Industries went under, as their boxes are really well made.

Pop rivet count is about 175!

I love the slide hitch, hate taking it out. I wish I could get into my garage to remove it. Ceiling is too low and the garage door is in the way. I ended up getting a portable hoist and have to maneuver around to get the hitch out. It works, but not nearly as slick as your set up. So, you tow with the hitch in the "back" position? I'm interested in how that works. I wasn't aware it was possible to do that.

Our garage has a 9' ceiling with 8' doors, which is nice.

NO I plan on towing with the hitch forward. Read position is 10" behind the axle and I do NOT think B&W recommends towing with it back.

I am going to trim the corners of the pin box off so they do not hit the front box.
Wanted to hook the trailer up today, however it is raining pretty hard.

Gotcha. I misread an earlier post with regard to towing in the back position. Actually, the distance between the trailer and the cab seem further back than when hitched up on my '01. I used the slide whenever I backed in with the old truck. I have only used the slide to get the trailer into my driveway, which is at a 90 degree off the street.

I just opened up the tailgate and unplugged the locking tail gate motor/solenoid. It was a pita to walk up the truck and not be able to open the tail gate to put something in the bed without first unlocking the truck. It is still lockable with the key! I gooped up the connector contacts with dielectric grease. We remove the tailgate for towing anyway, running with just the V-Box in the back of the hitch. SNOKING

I spent a few hundred miles driving a 4th gen earlier this month and the 4th gen tow mirrors suck compared to 2nd/3rd gen tow mirrors. What was Ram thinking???

The only thing they have that is better is the manually adjustable convex portion, but its a crappy convex mirror so the adjusting is mute.

I could see them being better when up.

I am truck-sitting a 2010 so next time I fire it up and drive it for a few days I will swing them up and see what I think.

I leave mine up all the time. Spots don't work as well with mirrors down. Mirrors up on a Dually look ok IMHO.

Well, I got the 4 pucks installed this morning. You do have to tip the bed up on one side and then the other to slip the pucks in place! AND I NOW KNOW where the gorilla that use to install oil filters was resigned. He now installs the 6 bed bolts! Got the trailer plug installed in the bed also. About 4 hours total.

Did you install the pucks your self? If so, any tips...... i will having to take on the chore of doing it my self so any tips you may have would be greatly appreciated!!!

N2DIRT, yes I installed them myself! I would suggest having a helper. The six bolts and hold the bed down in the short bed were really tight/with thread lock on them and hard to remove. All came out ok, unlike someone that had one snap off. You remove them on one side and loosen on the other. The bed does not have to go up as far as they say! Just far enough to drop the punk into the frame bracket. The help will make tighten the puck mounting bolts much easier than I had without a helper. I drilled the first quarter inch pilot hole and then use a bent piece of wire to judge if it was centered correctly. I made a slight adjustment and applied that to the others. Side to side was fine, it was front to back that I adjusted I slightly, as the reference point is effected by the bed liner spray.

To lift the bed I used my floor jack and a stick to the front tophat.

Did you have to loosen anything else besides the bed bolts? like the fuel filler hose, wiring, etc....
Did you put any protection in between the cab and bed? Or between the bed and bumper? your tip for finding center on the puck will come in handy!
I too have the Deep Cherry Red!!!

Just the bed bolts, the instructions say to go up higher than I did, you just watch off the wires and hoses. The 3 bolts on the far side hold the bed in place, then you reverse it for the other side.

I have a heater mirror question. My truck did not have the rear window defrost feature and does not have the grid wires on the windows. It does however have the dash button for it and lights up if you push it. The question is do the mirrors heat up when this button is pushed?

I too would like to know this. I have the rear defroster, it works.....I just don't know how. I 'spose I need to get the FSM ordered.



Edit, never mind, you are talking about the mirrors, not the rear window.
