Heavy girl!

GVWR is pretty useless on these trucks thou.

I am one that does not worry about GVWR, however I am licensed for 12K in the State of Washington vs the 11,700 manufactures GVWR. So I should stay under that or license for 14K. SNOKING

"Front axle was 5140 and rear axle was 3760"

My truck ready to tow with wife and about 1/2 tank fuel

Front axle 5,480 and rear axle 3,920#. Dang you really have the bed loaded since you are only 160# less on your rear axle than I am. My numbers are from the Highway DOT scales.

Short bed may put more cab weight on the rear axle.

Rear box:
2 full sets of Golf cubs and box are not that much more than the missing tail gate.

Hitch and picture frame
270 pounds

From box.
Honda eu1000i and a gallon gas can
Small pancake compressor
RC batteries in ammo can
Two tool bags.
4T jack
Misc boxes of tools power tools and air staplers.
Rebar stakes for awning and giant RR tie nails
Star wrench
You name it - the box is pretty full.

Under rear seat
Another 4K jack
Spare fuel filters

Also remember your rear is being held up by air!!!!

Pretty snowy on the Siskiyou's this morning! Next week at this time we will be going over or around!

I'd go to 14K. Isn't the long bed GVWR on that truck over 12K? Same axle/tire combo right?

Idaho does GCW for registration, but I max it at 26K so I don't ever have to worry about the legal side of it. I can break 12K GVW but its not too common, but I am generally over 11K when headed camping.

12,300 for long bed. 1.5 feet of bed and 226 pound heavier. Snoking

Should ride REALLY nice loaded or unloaded.

When I weighed mine with full fuel, hitch and me in it, (sans wife and daughter) total weight was 8597 lbs.
Front axle: 4982 lbs
Rear axle: 3615 lbs

Does the Aisin weigh more than the 68RFE?

Snoking, what size tires do you have 18's or 20's?

If 20's, what's do you run for tire pressure under normal unloaded weight?

18" I have 60 in the front. I am running 48 in the rear empty. I plan to put 80 in the rears hitting the road Saturday and may adjust down slightly once I get an actual rear axle weight.

I think your 20's are rated similar to my 3640 at 80 lbs 18". Snoking

SNOKING per your front axle weight using the weight/inflation chart are you 10psi more than the chart suggests?

Correct, as Barry Smith(Capriracer/tire expert/tire blogger) often posts, charts indicate the minimum inflation for a given load! Front end would get mushy with 50 lbs inflation.

My experience is to add about 10 psi to the front to compensate for edge wear. Has worked well for about a million commuting miles in my career!

Just for fun I look at peoples front tires on their trucks when walking around most have the edges worn on the front tires and the centers on the rear!

Well we did 440 miles today to Winchester Bay on the Oregon Coast. Mileage is around 12MPG at 60-63 MPH with combine 22k weight. No traffic issues in Seattle or Portland.

Thinking maybe old Blue's Exhaust Brake word better than Cherry's.

Also Old Blue may have run off and hide from Cherry's torque management. Did I enjoy the first long tow? You bet! Snoking

Exhaust brake functionality might be a affected by the increased weight of Cherry. And how well the Aisin integrates with the exhaust brake. EB works great when i down shift the G56. Way more impressed with the exhaust brake than the conventional brakes.
I agree with Nisaacs suggestion to lock out 6th. But i have no idea how to do that since i don't know how to drive an Aisin. Since 6th is double overdrive, i wouldn't expect much out of it when rpms are low. I'm guessing the torque converter locks up all the time when not shifting?

Was Blue a 3rd Gen? What axle ratio did blue have?

Lock out 6th and try it. With 3.42's your exhaust brake and power will be down at 60-63 mph in 6th. Your mileage is good with that weight and wind resistance.

Nick

Nick, in tow/haul at those speeds it stays in 5 gear. I hit the gear button once up to speed so I can watch what gear it is in. (a 2015+ feature someone said). It is just a matter of getting use to it. The Banks brake on the 2001.5 was at this point stronger because I was always running higher RPMs. And it functioned quicker based on not having to hunt down in gears to create more braking. Long open hills would be better for the new brake. Driving curvy mountain roads with the new setup will take a while to master manual shift etc. Wish the gear up down buttons were above the cruise control buttons like the phone buttons on the left. If down was a new top right button, it wound be easier to hit with one thumb.

Then use 4th:-laf Thanks for the explanation, I have a lot to learn about the new trucks. I would think that if push come to shove it will pull with your modified '01.
