Starting to look for new tires and I'm sure this question has been answered a thousand times here, but here goes.

Need new tires soon for me truck. 2004. 5 3500 single axle.

Don't want a real aggressive tread as most 90% of my driving is on the highway.

I'd like to be able to fill out the wheel wells a little, but don't want too big a tire that will cause ABS light to come on or cause issues with the speedometer being grossly offset.

I have the stock rims (chrome).

I was at Costco and the guy there said I definitely needed H series tires because they were heavy duty. Right now I'm not towing/hauling anything heavy, but might be putting a camper on the truck in the next few years.

Any recommendations would help. Do I need new rims? Can I keep what I have and put a bigger tire on? If so what size and brand?

Thanks in advance?

Time For New Tires -- Michelins Again? -- Or Something Else? ( 1 2)

Sorry, I can't get the link to paste correctly. However, if you go to the "Products & Accessories" forum, and do a search using my name -- jwchessell -- use "advanced search" for "threads", not "posts" -- you'll come up with the thread. There were 18 replies; the last was on 9-7-07.

The consensus was that for my type of driving, similar to yours and with the same truck -- 3500 SRW -- I should stick to the original Michelins, which is what I did. I was able to purchase a brand-new set from a fellow member. He had just purchased a new truck and was changing to more aggressive off-road tires. The cost, including mounting & balancing at a tire shop near him, was about half of what Costco (the least expensive I could find) would have charged.

And here's another thread, from this same forum, dated 1-12-08, which had 30 replies.

Well it's that time, I need tires! ( 1 2 3)

Maybe not the answer you are looking for, but if you are int. I'd sell you the chrome clad aluminum wheels, BFG tires, lug nuts, center caps, with 1000 miles from my 08 Mega Cab for $800. Sell your rims for a few hundred dollars then. Also, new spare for $100. Tire shop said his cost on the BFG tires is $150 ea. I am visitng a friend in Poulsbo this weekend. If int. let me know.

just bought another 04. 5 this time SRW for the gf. it currently has bfg A/t's and a 3" leveling kit on the front. they suck. next week she will getting set of 285/75/r17 goodyear mtr's like the 04. 5 dually in the driveway beside it. and the leveling kit will be coming off until spring time. The goodyears on the truck in the driveway have left rubber all over town so I cant tell you what kind of mileage they get (i can tell you they smoke good:-laf). I ahve done alot with these tires and I absolutely love them i just hate the price tag but feel they are worth the price. and they get alike oem tire fuel mileage.
