This is my first 4x4 I own and maybe my Q. will sound little silly. But I have couple Q.

On my truck I have this NV241HD transfer case and in owner's manual they stated that" case permit installation of an aftermarket power take-off devices ". What this devices do and how they help ?

And what tricks you guys have for 4wheeling in sand ? Any idea will be appreciated.

Mostly I get stuck , when I take my trailer with quads to riding in sand ( Glamis, Sand Mountain, Pismo ). I hear like taking pressure from tires will help, but how low you can go to stay safe and not to spin the tires on rims. Will some this power take- off device help in sand ?

Thanks

The PTO (or "Power take-off") port allows the installation of a wide variety of different devices that will be powered by the engine. A switch inside the cab is used to engage/disengage the PTO. Examples: most tow trucks have a hydraulic PTO to run their winches, hydraulic rams, etc. Some will install PTO air compressors and generators. I've even heard of someone leading a drive shaft from the PTO port to the rear bumper to power an assortment of devices. Tractors typically will have a PTO port (though, with a 3 point attachment), and they use it to power all the items mentioned above as well as mulchers, water pumps, snow blowers, spreaders (seeds or manure)... The list goes on.

As far as driving in the sand goes, I too got stuck in the sand at Pismo (up to my axles). Had problems moving even in low range and experienced a lot of bucking (spring wrap).

I aired the tires down to 15 psi and had no problems, but I kept worrying that the tires would come off the rims (they didn't). Solution? Wider tires that don't dig (not mudders). Airing down is not too bad, though. Just be careful -- and it wouldn't hurt to carry a compressor in case you let out too much.

BTW: be careful about filling up at the Mobil (I think) station. It had a green handle on its regular unleaded when I was there last summer. I had to buy 6 five gallon gas cans at the Wal-Mart and siphon the crap out of my truck..... (don’t dump it in the street: the clams are already suffering enough)
