15w-40s are usually Dino oil
5w-40s are synthetic

Seems from some of the posts in this thread, guys are using regular oil and thinking it's synthetic.

Mobil, Shell , Valvoline, Royal Purple and Amsoil all sell 15-40 synthetic diesel oil.

That's interesting. i've not seen the Valvoline full synthetic 15/40, only a blend.
Same with Mobil i can't seem to find the synthetic 15/40.
i know Amsoil and Scheaffers make a fully synthetic 15/40, but can only find blends in the other makes in a 15/40. care to elaborate?

There are only a few fully synthetic makers of 15/40 that i know of,
Swepco, Amsoil, royal purple, schaeffers, with Schaeffers being a synthetic plus i'm not sure if it's fully synthetic or a blend.

Yes Schaeffers is a full synthetic

I made no such assertions. Merely asked a question. Didn't mean to get your panties in a bunch for asking a question. So why not show PROOF not just the normal hearsay. So what if it's common knowledge, where did this knowledge come from? So instead of pooping off at the mouth be more helpful and show proof.

It has been published,if my word isn't enough for you so be it

Is their any down side to a 5w40 over a 15w40 other than purchase price? They are both 40 weight oils when up to temp. I usually run rotella t6 but am currently running some dealership 15w40 stuff that they gave me as part of a maintenance deal. They are supposed to do the first six oil changes for free at this place so i talked my service advisor into giving me the parts to do it myself. Then she quit so i am back to Rotella on my next change. I can not hear or feel a difference between the two different oils.

Not according to The Radio Flyer :-laf

The first four oil changes utilized 15W40...everything else has been 5W40 in either Rotella T6 or Delo 400 LE. I am liking the Delo 400 LE better. I am currently at 283,979 miles....

I am planning on trying the Delo. I have heard great things about it. I still have six gallons of rotella and thought i was smart to buy the cj4 before the switch. I called shell engineering and asked them about the bottles i have. Come to find out it is ck4 in the new bottle marked cj4. It was "market ready" and only needed the new label this year. Soooo i may return it and get some Delo this time.
