Hydroboost brakes

Has anyone tried puting a 97+ hydraulic brake system in a first gen to replace the vacuum unit?

You might do a search on the EGR rear disc conversion subject. There was a guy who had upgraded his master cylinder to hydroboost. He knew of a company that supplied the parts for 2nd gens. I don't know about 1st's. He did this upgraid as a cheaper alternative to rear discs.

Interesting...

I'm just trying to find more reasons as to why I need a 1g. :)

EDIT: I did the search and didn't find any solid information... some people questioned the benefit of converting to hydro boost brakes but I would much rather rely on hydraulic pressure than vacuum, I just don't trust vacuum.

Hey, CB hows things? The hydo-boost conversion has been done and seems to work pretty well from what I remember. No more problems with leaky hoses and crappy rebuilt vaccum thingys. ;)

Too many moons ago I talked to a guy who had done it but the details are sketchy. I was planning to do my 92 someday but got a little side tracked. :-laf

You've still got to have the vacuum pump to run the heat-A/C so going hydroboost doesn't solve thqt problem. My experience with hydroboost is that it really works better than vacuum on gas engines, but I suspect you aren't going to get much improvement on the CTD.

KTA is over on 1stgen.org. He has a thread about it, and he liked the difference. He also wondered why his one truck took the hydroboost to have good brakes, while another will put you through the windshield with OEM vacuum assist.

i plan to have a/c ... probably will not get used much with no top on the truck ... . but i will have it if i want it

my biggest thing is i need to know if the power steering pump/ vacuum pump from like a 2000 will bolt up to the first gen motor ? and if it wont can i make it work?

You CAN take a '00 pump assembly and it will bolt up- vacuum pumps are the same. The worst that you can run into is needing some adaptors for the power steering lines. Plus, you'd have the outlet for the hydroboost.

My 92 has hydroboost modification . . It stops as good as my gals honda car. . Monumental improvement over my 93. . The Vaccume pump is still utilized for the vent system ,Pac Brake,etc... . Of coarse the power steering pump powers the hydraulic brake booster. . A MUCH safer truck now and much more fun to drive.....

So were you able to use your original powersteering pump and just change the vacuum booster out for the hydraulic one or did you need to replace the powersteering pump also?

Thanks in advance,

Caleb
