RV, I took it to mean that when the Dynalocs broke that the hub would be engaged, just as if you did not have locking hubs. Everything would be turning all the way back to the transfer case (just as stock) and 4 WD could be engaged and you would HAVE 4 WD. If the Warn hub engagement broke, then you would not have 4 WD period. I had rather turn the whole shebang and not need it than not be able to engage 4 WD in a jam. I hope someone will chime in if I am wrong on this. Mark

I wish I had the Dynalocs and have them fail in the locked position. At least you'll still have 4WD when you need it. If the Warns fail, you have no choice, you simply don't have 4WD. There's little chance of doing further damage when the Warns fail. I drove to Florida and back, about 3,000 miles and luckily didn't cause further damage.

The only thing I would do if I had the Dynalocs, would be to check that they unlock everytime I swap tires in the spring and fall.

One of my dynalocs is reluctant to lock in at times.....the clunk is the dead give away that one of the hubs is not locked in. My procedure when the one doesn't go right in is to rock the rig back and forth after I put it in 4x, of course after both hubs are locked. Worst thing in my case is to wait till you have to have 4x, put everything in, and gas it. Big boom coming if the one hub locks up then.

That's a good point, it's better to be locked into 4 wheel drive and just shift back into 2 wheel. But at the time I seem to remember it was a possible transfer case failure.

But at the time I seem to remember it was a possible transfer case failure.

I didn't mean to side track/hijack this thread or add to the confusion. The OP, David Shadrach is the one who bought the transfer case and actuator and is going to install when he gets a chance. David owns a 3rd gen. whereas I have a 2nd gen. The reason I chimed in is because, I was experiencing the exact same thing under identical road and weather conditions.

I'm curious to see how David makes out and hopefully he'll back on the road in 4WD mode.

I picked up the used T case on Sun, but not sure when I will get a chance to work on it. Generally I don't drive it much in the winter but was driving it daily in Jan because my Jeep was down for repairs. I'll see if I can get into our shop after work on Sat as we have a pit, and then I can at least pull the actuator and have a look see. David

I decided to replace the Warns with the Dynalocs. They finally came in and I just had them installed. I'm back to having 4WD again.

Hopefully the next entry will be from D. Shadrach with good news.

UPDATE: Since I don't drive the truck a lot in the winter I finally got around to replacing the electric shift actuator and it has fixed my problem of no 4X4. Now if I can just find the time to fix all the other little things I have been ignoring. David
