Yeah, you're right. Dodge is responsible because AutoZone and OReilly's don't stock off brand no name filters for your truck. Dodge is responsible because the independently owned and managed Dodge dealers where you live can't please you. Your truck won't meet the non-existent fuel mileage posted on your MSRP sticker apparently driving around at slow speed on ranch roads in first and second gear. It was Dodge's fault that you didn't call a dealer for a service appointment. It was Dodge's fault that you or some amateur screwed up the serpentine belt when installing an aftermarket water pump. And it was clearly unfair that Dodge didn't reimburse you for your screw up. Sounds like everybody you come in contact with owes you something.

EB, who was an ollfield hotshotter has put over 200,000 miles on his 2007 with no problems, my 2008 has almost 60,000 troublefree miles, and countless others are troublefree or have had only turbo or EGR cleaning and a reflash done.

Do the courageous thing, run straight to the closest Ferd dealer and trade it for a really fine, troublefree truck. You'll feel better . . . and so will I.

Just for your infomation, the reason I was trying to buy the filters from local sources was that the dealerships down here stayed out of them for months and months. I did not knock the sensor off during the install. Here is how it happened, the water pump started making noise and finally locked up while down at the ranch where cell phones dont work, that belt wrapped around the fan and ripped up the sensor, I still have the water pump by the way and it is a different water pump than the 5. 9. It was out of stock as well as the belt and sensor, I called every dealer in my area looking for parts to fix it, it was on national backorder, cummins in corpus christi had no water pump or belt as well. You guys like piling on and killing the messanger and braging about trucks who really dont work anything like my truck does, its not about how many miles a truck has, hiway miles and ranch offroad roads are not the same, plus look at where the truck lives and works, the edge of the Mexican desert starts in my area, tons of caliche rocks, dust and 120 degree days over 62 in a row at one time, this truck was not tested or built for these conditions, I should have known since it was the 1th year for 6. 7, but i was so excited thinking i would have a 5. 9 dependabilty with the 6. 7 LMAO!! I have owned over 20 pieces of HE and repaired and operated every one of them most of the time. I hope Dodge sells the Taliban some 6. 7's in Rams so they will brakedown or be out of service waiting on Genos to UPS parts to Kabul Afganstan and flys in the only sincere 6. 7 tech Mullenaxe to reflash them and keep them going!!!!!LOL Kill the messanger is the motto some have in here... .

MOST people do a bit of research before spending 40k on atruck sounds like you did not :-laf

Same ol lame replay, how can one reasearch a 1th year version of a new motor, is that your excuse to cover up the lemon this 1th year version is??? Show me where on google where the 6. 7 started having these problems I am supoosed to have researched for?? You must own stock in Dodge or work for them. My truck is a 2007 and i can swear on a Bible that had I known some lying awrse clown service manager would claim its my fault just dont idle the truck more than 15 minutesat a time?? That time I should had walked down to Ford and Chevy and taken my chances. How can I research dodge shutting down assembly lines and Cummins parts shortage in advance??? Have u got a crystal ball search engine??? I wanted a good truck, not out of service and grief!!! Justice and service only comes to those who demand it. I am going to complain when i haul this turkey up to the dealer who has techs to reflash and resticker it. By the way, down where I am, one can die from a walkout in 125 degree weather, this truck let me down, i had to drive out the old 1964 w200 powerwagon to get home when the 60,000 mile water pump locked up!!!

I think it should be noted that during the entire time the original poster was so angry at the world because he was unable to find fuel filters anywhere I had several on the shelf in my garage. They have always been available from Geno's Garage.

If he'd asked I would have sent him one rather than read his rant against Dodge because of his lack of planning.

Harvey,

I see on the new filter instructions they are giving your info on how to do the removal and replacement. Fleetguard must be reading the TDR. :-laf

Cheers Ken

A wise farmer who knows how his truck will be abused on the farm would not go out and buy a high tech vehicle that can not be diagnosed by a farmer. He would not need to google 6. 7 to learn the history it would be irrelevent. Your mud in the t/pipe also makes me wonder :-laf:-laf

Thanks, Ken. I doubt they needed any suggestion from me.

I bet we'd all be surprised at the numbers of industry engineers and thinkers who read TDR and factor our posts and threads into product planning without us ever having a clue that we as a group have influenced the products.

A base of 30,000 mostly savvy product users has got to be a powerful influence on the folks who design and build what we drive.

I for one has recieved many questions from DC.

How much can we charge you?

How do you want to pay?

When do you want to pay?

How quick can you get outa here?

Many more:-laf

Harvey,

When I was designed products for a major Large Equipment manufacture ( 40 years) we hardly every read reports or talk to the owner/operator. The design engineers are usually to busy design out factory fit-up issue and or design for the next Generation of machines. The point of contact for the customer interface is usually the service department and or marketing engineers.

They would then write functional specs and service specs. This is what the engineer would design to. Then audits are held with manufacturing, service and marketing types to review the design, with emphasis being placed on ease of assembly and then serviceability. Please also realize that most engineers are not from the farm anymore. Some do not even know how to use a screw driver correctly.

Unfortunately with the added emphasis on emission, safety and the electronic controls on the vehicles that are required take up additional space that is not there. The vehicle envelope will not and can not get any larger therefore the components are placed sometimes in an inconvenient area for serviceability.

Just my experience and $0. 02

I understand what you were saying. I know that engineers are often designing to hard requirements and existing limitations but if they never consider feedback from end-users it seems to me they are ignoring a valuable source of additional information that should be considered and could be used to improve their products. Ignoring owner comments sounds a little like a ship's captain setting a new course without knowing where his ship currently is.

I have talked with Cummins engineers on more than one occasion and either heard direct comments or read between the lines to get the impression that some do occasionally monitor TDR. Obviously, we TDR members don't drive design teams but I would be surprised if some feedback didn't get thrown into the hopper at Cummins.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that Mike Mitchell, CEO and principal owner of NuWa Industries, Inc. , manufacturer of HitchHiker fifth wheel travel trailers does actively participate fully, perhaps on an almost daily basis, on the NuWa Owner's Forum, a privately owned and operated forum for owners and prospective owners. He harvests owner comments and publishes them on his company website with permission, responds to questions and complaints, and occasionally asks questions or asks for suggestions from the owners. He sees communication with owners and prospective owners as a source he can benefit from.

do they really listen

i hope the factory really does look and listen. the 6. 7 is a awesome engine. way more than i needed. i would of been happy with a 4. 5 or something in that range. with a couple more gears for the pacific northwest hills. i only tow three/four times a year. the rest of the time the truck is over kill. a 3/4-1 ton dacota with a 4-6 cyl 4-4. 5l diesel would fit my needs very well. that wasn't available, so i bought the truck that would handle the job. with i much say, a lot more than i really needed.

but at least i'm not over loaded any more.

i do hope that the supply issue is resolved soon. the early demise of some water pumps and turbos, are a concern.

so far i'm a happy camper, very glad i bought the 6. 7.

maybe somewhere else in the world.

the ford ranger is available with 3/4 and 1 ton models, with crew cabs plus a diesel option. but not in north america.

it might hurt the super ditty and f-150 market. same story with fiat/dodge and government motors.

i guess the back yard modifier's are going to busier over the next few years.

Just for grins freind, how far is your dealership????

purchasing dealership is about a hour away about 60 miles, small town , city dealer is about 20 minutes 2nd choice as they are way to impersonal and busy, i like to talk to the service tech and service manager about tech issues that i read about here and exchange tech and service info

My 08 truck still likes the highway hit 19 mpg hauling a light load hauling tools and lawn equipiment ,does not like idling had to idle with ac on this summer clearing brush in 100 plus degree heat to cool off ,soot buildup noticed did a regen went 90 % full, towing a big shredder fuel guage falls fast, economy is not of big concern, its a work truck just drive it and get out on highway and run it .

definently a highway rig .

AS flash all is well for now . to bad if white ranch must know all manufacturers have adopted the same exhaust setup that plages new trucks read some of the other forums on the other brands same stuff and 10 to 14 mpg you couldnt get me a ford as the engine compartment is stuffed and the new chevy is still just average. Smart diesel hybrid trucks with better engineering and economy should evolve from competition but will take some time.

we could probally do with a supercharged turboed 4 or 5 cyl lightweight aluminum blocked and sleeved diesel electric hybrid with hydraulic fans and hydraulic powered accesorys and onboard compressed air , 2 speed rear end and electric over hydro drives and delete a lot of the old school stuff with smarter more efficient designs.

the little 25/30 mpg 3/4 ton 4 cyl turbo diesel Mahindra truck and suv that are coming will be a little different. it is showing some interest in the light duty market just has a funky look to it. hybrid version coming next year, big three has no economic interest and has killed their 1/2ton diesel market entrys for the moment. Someone will buy it , just like the 47mpg turbo diesel jettas. BMW and Audi diesels in america are coming on board now also.

competition is good

I order the filter kit from Geno's. that way I always have extra on hand. When I order the kit I always order extra air at the same time. I change my air every time I change oil.

White ranch is in need of some cell technology upgrades and also how about a Desert hummer truck? cheap now that they are liquidating but still crappy mileage.

They also make satilyte phones, But any carrrier specific signal amplifier about 300 bucks look at wilson mobile electronicsCell Phone Antennas and Cell Phone Boosters at Wilson Electronics site for info and can be installed and will work to boost output and receptive power and remove antennna radiation source from your ear and give you miles of range, works for the military, police, border patrol, etc. and maybe a hill to sit on if there is one.

Kinda like over near Sanderson TX, hotter than hell most of the year .

100+ degrees Fahrenheit is 'a little warm. '

Heat Index is just annoying

99% humidity is a little sticky

We have four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, still Summer and Christmas.

A cool snap (below 70 degrees) is good pinto-bean chili weather.

You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see. Amen to this or the skeeters start bitin.

Again i ask Can you lemon law that vehicle? Trade it !

A desert severe duty aftermarket custom off road truck package and a big AC for them hot days(Ambient temp over 105+) for the ranch, trade the dodge in and go from there or a army truck. Your ranch work OFF ROAD truck market segment is so specialized that you need a baja style truck with the right equipment for the job and its obvious that this vehicle is not making the cut for your ranching/work environment. A vehicle that will idle for days in the heat with the AC on MAX without fouling anything and work in the south texas heat and not overheat is not a current smogged out epa restricted "STOCK" on road vehicle like you purchased. or like the one i have for that matter im not happy with the smog crap installed but it does the work i ask for which is a totally different application than yours. And i need the warranty.

maybe them hunters will give you the capital from a MUY Grande hunt to upgrade your ride to what you need and it is not a ordinary big three off the shelf "on road" vehicle.

You'll need a going to town vehicle too.
