Today I noticed on my way to work my truck felt alittle week in the power department, also wasnt blowing as much black smoke as usuall. So I got all over it and as so as it hits 2k it falls on its face and blows with smoke looses rpm untill you let out of it.

Ive got a 96 5 speed with the mods in the signature. It seems the worst in second gear. first is noticeable but revs out like it should. second falls the worst. third just misses. Didnt try it in od.

So my question is what is making this happen? It literaly happend over night cause it was fine yesturday. Im thinking my timing has slipped.

Could be timing but i would first clean the air filter, then replace the fuel filter. Was it cold enough that the might have fuel gelled?

I suppose it could be those I will check them first.

Also does any one know were a good place to get the timing tools from is? I should have a set anyways.

I was just talking about that same kind of a issue with another guy. It sounds like the timing has slipped possibly. Mine has spitted and sputtered and blown white smoke when in the lower gears under low boost. It makes me wonder if the engine can be harmed when the timing slips. Anyone know?

Had the same symptoms with my 96 it turned out to be a fuel filter. After messing with it for a few days. oops I remember an old cat skinner telling me check the simple stuff first!

yeah I will check the simple things first, but I dont think it will be them. I happend to fast to be a filter imo. But I will still change it and see. thanks for all the help.

Does anyone know were to get the timing tools If I do need them?
