After driving about 60 miles today I got home and left my truck idling by my shop longer than anticipated, about 10 minutes, shut it down then tried to restart about 30 minutes later, no go. It was about 90° out. Tried several times over a ten minute period, nothing. Fuel pressure gauge was showing 22 psi while cranking, so it was getting fuel. I finally took a compressed air line and blew on the injection pump for a minute, it started right up and ran fine. Any ideas?

Bill,

If this is the same truck that had the spell on the road in NV sometime back maybe you need an exorcist. #ad

I have no idea what might be causing the strange behaviour with that truck. I might hazzard a WAG or two. Could something in the governor be sticking?

Did you check to see if the fuel shutoff solenoid was working correctly??

Wecome home Larry. My fuel pressure gauge is ported to the injection pump banjo bolt, I had pressure there so the problem must lie in the injection pump right? I guess that would include the solenoid, I'll have to wait and see if it does it again to check. Have to go to Lewiston tomorrow, hope it doesn't give up out in the scablands.

Bill,

You might burn some incense and have some sort of war dance. Maybe scare the evil spirits a little and they will let you alone. #ad

I had that problem with my 95. It eventually got worse. Sometimes it would start, sometimes it wouldn't. Next time it does it, leave the key in the on position and manually open the fuel shutoff valve, if it stays open it will most likely be the shut off solenoid on the top of firewall. That fixed mine. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to have it vapor lock inside of injector pump or one of the high pressure lines?

Asked a mechanic today he thought it mite be air. He said diesel wouldn't develop vapor.
But I would think if air was getting in it would happen all the time. (Said if air bubble you could use compressed air at bleeder screw to get things moving)

But shutting it down and not starting until air was blown on the injector pump(cooling it down) sounds just like symptoms of vapor lock. (Chrysler products were well known for it. )
Wonder if there was gasoline in the fuel the last time you filled up?
Could be fuel shut off solenoid mechanic said it could over heat (you can grab it to see if it is to hot) or get stuck and stay in on or off position. (compressed air cooling it off).
