The Cummins squeal

What is black?

Wow! Did anyone else see the northern lights last night. First noticed them around 2100 and they were still going strong at 0030 and 0200 this morning when I chucked another round in the wood stove.

I've heard it means its a precusor to cold weather on the way. Sometimes it does work out this way, but that all anecdotal as far as I know.

Hey TrailDog, glad someone else saw them. They were great, but still can't compare to seeing them while I was in the Yukon.

I missed out on the 'peak', but they were still VERY visible at 23:45 when I went to bed. Extremely cool, impressive sight.

I haven't seen 'em since I was about 8 or 10 snowmobiling in the White Mountains of NH. (Wentworth, Rumney, etc. )

I was checking them out standing on the roof of my house. I guess I should have been sitting down. I looked straight up at a moving one, and almost took a digger off the roof! It's been over ten years since I've seen them look like they did last night.

I checked them out a few times during the night. Started out looking white/red and the last time I looked, they were green.

Was this forecasted anywhere?

Dan

If some one can post a picture for me? A friend of mind from Grand Marias MN took an awsome picture. You can see the northern lights. Then on the bottom it reflects off the lake.

A late response, but the lights were pretty incredible. Question for Fireman Dave - what department are you with?

Thanks.

Fireman Steve.

They were awesome. My wife had never seen them before, and she was a little freaked out... (more than usual). :p

Yes Steve, it's still pretty good - depends on the time of year, of course. You know how it is, though - I live here and hardly ever get out on the lake. My playtime on the lake usually consists of dropping a hard suction line into it to draft water out. :D

I used to scuba dive/spear fish in Green Lake. Is the water clarity still good?

I've seen the N. Lights before when I was maybe 8-10 yrs. old. Saw them this time also. Very cool to see. :) Very bright and colorful.

The Northerlights are very cool and seeing anything but green is fairly rare. I work in the oilfields of Northern Alaska and see the lights all winter, but getting the good shows (red, white, green, blueish, etc) is rare. They are not such a novelty up here, but I still stop the truck and have a look at a real good show.

Did anybody take any pictures for the ones who didn't see them?

Meds from surgery put me to sleep way too early. ;)

Thanks,
