I can get certain material for at .1 off "list", we never sell at the list. Its some make believe number that does have an algorithm to it in most of our cases.

But I'm sure this is the same.

Say list is $3k, I'm buying that part at $300, then I do a 40% markup, your looking at $420 out the door.

Alot of my contract buyers will say "x" off list, which is a really bad deal for them, I usually correct that for them and develope a proper parts list for them to purchase off of, others says 15% above cost which might not be enough for me to even consider selling a product with that small of a mark up. Then others it's up to me to decide what's fair, and when they call you out or price check you, that's the real test of how fair you are treating your customer.

It's all a free market which is a good thing.

Considering the cost of the tools and software needed by a dealer to cover all the makes and models vs a very small niche vendor, it's easy for the niche vendor to cut the price down to fractions of what a dealer can sell it for. And provide a better customer experience along the way since they cater to a much smaller market.

Maybe spliting the electronics into a separate part not all in one at some point. Then connect via a harness to keep the electronics safe from the coolant issue and heat cycles. That's a lot of development with maybe a very small pay off, so my guess is they just will become a known issue and just deal with them as needed.

That's the value I see in the TDR. Having access to that knowledge of these known issues and fixing them for fractions of what folks charge, then maybe getting it into the buyers guide at some point if documented enough times to merit that for these model years.

This reminds me of the ECM/PCM repair houses, some are really great, some not, so it's nice to have avenues to get real world feedback on these parts.

Look here' why VGT turbo's suck..I look forward to the day they are NO longer in production and a thing of the pass. You can't rebuild this Turbo, I have tried to order just the center section from Holset NO Go...I didn't care what the cost was or minimums.

Well even when on vaca someone is checking their email. Tells me either they are committed or simply don't have a life....;) :D

Here is the response.

Good afternoon Nate,
We offer both Brand new HOLSET units and reman HOLSET units. These are true HOLSET actuators, not aftermarket units. We have these in stock and ready to go! Please let me know if you have any additional questions

I have no way to verify their statement but can say With my dealings with them on my sole purchase they are very professional and have no reason to doubt them at this point.

So...for whatever it's worth.

Guess I will call them on Monday. Thanks.

I'm going to go test drive a 2019 2500 with a 6.4 HEMI tomorrow.
I loved my '01 CTD for the engine and transmission, 5spd. Never had an issue with either.
I love my '16 2500 mega cab for the truck, so far. Not sure I want to deal with all the emissions crap that will need replacing, or another engine problem, or a DEF problem. My truck is my family car, I got it to go places, not to drain my wallet. I know it's not all Cummins fault. The EPA has ruined the diesel engine.

I will fix this truck and drive it for a while, see what happens. I don't really need the power and extra expense of the Cummins though. I don't tow anything over 10,000 lbs and that new 8spd HEMI will probably do everything I want.
16 years ago when I bought my first CTD I didn't want anything to do with a HEMI truck. Feels weird to even think about getting one now. lol

To think that ANY 2019 truck will have the endurance of ANY 2001 truck is very foolish and flawed thinking. These are very different times.
Good luck in your search.

I can't see dumping thousands of dollars into parts ( DEF and DPF crap) for a truck I don't really need. Guess that makes me a flawed fool

The company I work for now has Ford 550's, Freightliners with Cummins, Peterbilts with Cummins, and international's with the MAXX force engine. They're all money pits. If it's not a DPF on a cummins, or a DPF on an international, it's a DEF tank with a bad sensor on a FORD 6.7 power stroke that made it go into limp mode. I see it everyday. Will the HEMI outlive a Cummins? NO. Will it now cost less to replace or work on? YES.
If I didn't have to haul the kids around, I would have a 2 door, 4wd 12 valve for myself.

I am not disagreeing with you, nor telling you what to do, but gassers are just as overcomplicated, and have their own sets of issues. Read up on "Hemi Tick", and Hemi cam/lifter failures, or how a 6.4 PCV failure requires intake manifold replacement. It's hard times for us motorheads.

Not all of the changes have been bad. Mostly just the cost increase of the parts and all the emissions crap. Don't get me wrong, when my truck works, it's a freakin beast. It tows my jeep up the hill like it's not even there. And the MPG at 77mph going through NV and ID was 22mpg. My '01 couldn't do that. It's not all doom and gloom. A 5.7 HEMI is a major improvement over the 5.9 magnum. I was spoiled for so long with my old truck, NOT costing me money. ;)

The HEMI is a great engine - and if someone asks me for advice to buy a new Overlanding Vehicle I tell him get the Gasser, it will have way less problems that let you stranded.
The Gassers exhaust after treatment is still as basic as 30 years back. Proven technology.

Today's Diesels are nice as long as one isn't more then 100 Miles away from the next workshop - in reach of limp mode and count down timer.

Reading on here and other forums you don't hear about mechanical issues. Software, sensor issues yes. but very few mechanical issues. The aftermarket has really stepped up to make better replacement parts. In some cases they have solved problems at least I hope that City Diesel has with their actuators. Look how Carli and EMF have solved the ball joint issue. We live in a disposable age. Nothing is designed to really out last the warranty period. And it's not just cars and trucks. It's everything. Even very large Marine engines. Ask me why I really don't like CAT marine engines, you had better have an afternoon and Bottle of something smooth.
That said all I can say if read everything you can Google is awesome on providing you with knowledge. This site is by far the best resource. Then Don't go cheap with your replacement parts. And by cheep I don't mean the price I mean don't just go on eBay and buy the first thing you find. Spend the time learn everything you can before you spend the money. I needed an ECM for my step daughters 07 Honda Civic last year. Midas in Ct smoked the old one trying to figure out why the Ac system wasn't working. The Compressor clutch failed they jumped something out and No more ECM. Honda wanted $2995 for a new one and another $250 to program it. Sorry got off track. I started my search and after a bit I found reman ECM's for cheap prices. But then I stumbeled on a brand new ECM on Ebay for a very fair price. someone bought it and before they could install it the car was lost in a fire. New un opened box with honda warranty. Cost me $450. and ebay offered money back warranty for a few bucks. Paypal will go to bat for you if you need them to. Moral do your research. there is no reason to buy junk. Everyone of us on here will help you find what you need if you just ask.

Ebay is loaded with deceptive selling ( We'll Online sales caution needs to be consider). ED did his home work and Saved $$$$, No doubt that seller was private Person, not a regular China Junk seller.

Price is only one factor.
