Burning crankcase oil?

Accident Report

I'm sure it probably does. But so does rubbing your fingers together continously. I was an apple grower when the Alar scare ruined the industry several years ago. The amount of Alar required to cause cancer in mice was equivalent to a person eating a thousand pounds of apples a day for ten years. They still banned it...

That's funny illflem.

I saw something similar a few years back. The news reported that the Sweet 'N Low sugar substitute also caused cancer. The scientist told the reporter that anyone consuming more then sixty (60) packs of sugar substitute per day, for extended periods, could be at risk.

I think you'd sooner develop bladder and kidney problems from drinking all that iced tea!

Our liberal media wouldn't try to sway the facts any would they? What are the effects from exhaust coming from a gasoline engine? There is some nasty stuff that is put in our gas to help protect us - yeah right. If its not one thing its another. Whats next outlaw the internal combustion engine?

The obvious goal is to eliminate all internal combustion engines. Why else would the government give a $2000 tax brake to those buying the new hybrid cars that get less fuel economy than a diesel powered Jetta? Imagine the fuel economy the hybrids would get with a comparably powered diesel engine instead of the gasser.

By the way, couldn't you get cancer if you just sat around and did nothing? Those cosmic rays must be doing some damage. :D

So does this mean that when someone pulls a "Smoke-Out" they can be charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon?

Will we have to have a Concealed Carry Permit to Use Diesel Fuel?

Cummins=CANCER :(

If some tree hugging hippie does'nt like something, they will get the government to give them who knows how much money to do a "study" to prove it causes cancer, headaches, diarrhea, or anything to get it banned or outlawed. I would'nt be suprised if the amount of fumes it takes is'nt like sticking your face behind a bus tailpipe. I could see how that could irritate someones lungs.

Gee, the EPA wants to crack down on diesels and this study hits the news, what a surprise. If you want to see the agenda, look around. Everytime there's a UN summit somewhere, it's "AMERICA IS ONLY 10% OF THE WORLD'S POPULATION BUT CONSUMES 25% OF THE RESOURCES" Uh huh  well if we all lived in mud huts I guess we wouldn't consume much either. The rest of the world thinks they can bring themselves up by bringing us down and they have folks who are on their side in all facets of our own government and media. I have no problem with making engines more efficient and cleaner and I like the idea of keeping the environment as clean as possible, I just see right through these people's real agenda.

what doesnt cause cancer, supposedly heating things in the microwave and standing in front of it can cause cancer, drinking the water in certain areas causes cancer, everyone has it in some form or another it just depends on what we do to bring th ecancer out, bc all cancer is is basicly mutated cells that your body cant fight off. at least that is the way my bro explained it to me, he is studying it in med school at johns hopkins univesity while i sit at wvu the #1 party school in the nation and fight off cancer by drinking beer. haha

Surgeon Generals Warning: Walking in front of a moving bus can cause instant death !

Have you ever noticed that anything popular , or that tastes good , or works good causes cancer. Coincidence or evil government plot ?:p

illflem your right about alar. Only one science research outfit came out with that balderdash every other research science center said no-way. Orange county (California) school board pulled all apple products from cafeterias to have it checked for alar and no trace was found in the juice or apple pies(which this rat hugging outfit stated that with alar in the apple it would multiply ten or was it twenty times the original amount.

Since the scare apples prices went up and never came down again. ( I'm at the tail end of the apple chain, before the consumer gets them. )

Now back to diesel fumes.

These rat huggers who did the test used engines from the 50's and 60's because 50/75 percent were still being used today.

The reference to rat huggers is to the ones that wanted to save a species of rat that lived on the hillsides of California (they kept controlled fires being done). In the long run brush fires and later mud slides destroyed houses and maybe the rats (I don't remember if the rats got it in the end or moved on).

This study was did several times before I bought my truck (I read it in a trucking magizine) I don't remember which group or agency that was given the report but they said no way do the study over again several times but the rat huggers finally got their way.

Choice thoughts on report

My . 02 reading that article... ...

1. "The decade-long study found that inhaling diesel exhaust from large trucks and other sources over time can cause cancer in humans. "---- Hmmm, what about gasser exhausts, paint, he!! what about pollen, cottonwood, sap over time. When's someone going to do a study on why every study done comes back with "might be carcinogenic causes cancer). "

2. "The diesel industry focused on the fact that the study was unable to quantify any cancer risk associated with exposure. "----hmmm, how can the title be "Following the release of a landmark EPA report that links diesel exhaust to lung cancer" if there is no associated data... . I'm so confused now.

3. "“EPA’s review of the cancer issue is significant because it states that the actual risk from exposure to diesel particulates, the primary health risk concern, may be zero,” ----Um, now isn't that a good mark?

4. "The industry also noted that the study was performed when most of the diesel engines on the road were built before the 1980s.

“While the report focused on the past, the future is clean diesel: diesel trucks and buses built today are more than eight times cleaner than just a dozen years ago"----definitely more good marks.

5. "The report acknowledged that its findings were based on engines built before the mid-1990s, but said the results continued to be valid because the slow turnover of truck engines has kept many of these vehicles on the road. "----Better AND reliable?!?? That's great! So, why aren't they up in arms against coal mine fires instead???

6. "Whatever health questions may have existed in the past, we are eliminating them as a concern for the future. ”---sounds responsible.

7. "In this case, the report said, “the exposure-response data are considered too uncertain” to produce a confident quantitative estimate of cancer risk to an individual. "-----does NOT sound responsible.

Using a Cell Phone causes cancer too. Remember when they said that about a year ago. I still see a lot of cell phone attached to peoples ears. :) If diesel causes cancer then I guess I'll get it, cause They aren't getting My Diesel Till They Pry it From My Cold Dead Hands. :D

Eggs were also bad for ya about 5 years ago, now they say it's good to eat up to 2 a day. Helps reduce the risk of cancer. So the way I see it is if I eat more eggs then it will cancel out the cancer causing diesel fumes. ;)

Have you ever started your truck then closed the garage doors so you can smell the cold diesel fumes? I have and I loved it. :p

ok, so the bits of soot can cause cancer. normal jobs and people will never be exposed to enough to make a difference. second hand tobbaco smoke is worse. . someone should get a similar campaign going against gasoline engines. . didn't hitler in use vw gasoline engines to pipe exhaust fumes into the death chambers?

campaign slogin

"sure diesel fumes can kill you, in 100 years, but gasoline fumes can kill you in 10 min!"

Diesel exhaust can cause cancer - get yur mouth of that tailpipe!! BTW, reform gas with MTBE is MUCHO MUCHO more potent carcinogen, inhaled or ingested as in well water!! Many lawsuits now coming up in Maine, NH. Moral of the story in my view - at 40% [CI] thermal efficiency versus 25% [SI] diesel is still LESS cancer!!!

Here's how stupid california is,at work they made us put warning labels on all our diesel equipment. loaders, dozers, cranes and so on! "Warning the exhaust from this equipment is known to cause cancer " don't think to hard might a brain tumor!!

Everything will kill you. I have a buddy that was giving me crap because I was taking different vitimans then he was (his were better, ha, ha) He is moving to Denver and I rode out with him from his place in Kansas. When we started to get close to Denver I said "where are the mountains and the city?" You could not see them for the SMOG!!! I told him he better start wearing a gas mask and taking more vitimans. I'll stay in the country with the clean air and my polluting diesel truck :p
