I lost the link to the company that makes a circlip replacement part, it's more durable. Anyone have the link? Any experience with the thing?

I'm glad this was brought up. Last time checked I didn't think this was available for the 241HD only the standard 241's. Guess I was wrong or things have changed.

I could be wrong but I think only the HD has the circlip. The fix is limited to 4 bolt cases not the newer 3 bolt ones (acording to the site).

What else doesn't make sense to me is that at the top of their page they list that the kit fits "1988-2000 Dodge, Chevy & GMC NP231, 242 & 243 transfer cases. "

Yet at the bottom is list the 241 LDL and HD in the chart provided?

I think the confusion comes from the 3 cases NV makes.

241 (LD?) (Dodge doesnt use this one in the Cummins)

241HD (Dodge spec)

241PTO (Dodge calls this one "HD")

Go figure that out :-laf

Guess if you look at it from a Dodge perspective they have 2 cases:

241

241HD (really the PTO)

I remember a post a while back about the HD's having a snap ring that is accessed through a hole in the tailshaft housing to remove the tailshaft housing, that may be the difference.

I have the kit on my truck. It has the NV241 DLD with the 2 piece tailshaft housing. The other case used by dodge is the NV241HD and its the one with the PTO cover and 1 piece tailshaft housing.

From what I am reading the 241HD with the 1 piece tailhousing is ok and doesn't have to be fixed. Right? I am a little confused as to what T-case needs to be fixed.

I doubt this will help with the confusion but here goes:confused:

Here is a better explanation of the snap ring problem: http://www.atra-gears.com/gears/sep01/taming.html

After looking at the factory manual it appears that the shaft is held back with the same snap ring in both the 241 and the 241HD, the snap ring you access through the hole in the tailshaft housing on the 241HD is on the outside of the rear bearing.

I also had this link: http://gillysproducts.com/gillys.html saved under the name "South bay truck 4x4" but both those sites seem to be dead.

On this page: http://www.drivetrain.com/transfercasesparts.html#New Process Model 241 it says the t-case saver "works on 1998 and earlier models. Will not work if your transfer case has PTO cover. " I think this means no go on the HD. After all that I still have no idea if this is a problem with the HDs, I think I'm gona go fret over my 2 psi fuel pressure and just wait for the t-case to blow up:)

I think the problem would be having the access to get it in place correctly through the little access hole. I bet its a pain in the butt.
