I know RP told me their oil was stable to 400* IIRC... I never even got close to that...

I want to do the single fast cooler/filter combo too, but you can't buy just a single fast cooler... which are way overpriced for all they really are...

How do you overfill the transmission?? Through the top?

I try to get it to just trickel out, and then squeez a TON in as quicky as I can and then cap it off. :)

What I do is just tip my truck on it side and simply stand there and pour it in...

I'm thinking of drilling and tapping the fill plug for 1/8" pipe... then I could make and extension so "overfilling" would be easy... then unscrew the extension and insert a plug... basically a plug in the plug...

The threads of the fill plug are metric... not NPT unfortunately...

You guys with tools and time. I mean really, how often do you change out this fluid? I suppose if it's a 15 minute job to drill, and tap. But it only takes 15 minutes to pull the console apart and once you get the trick to the shift tower deal, over filling it easer.

The console in my 04. 5 doesn't seen to come out that easy... I have already tried...

On a side note... towing about 1500#s, hitting about a 40mph headwind, and running 65-70mpg in 90*+ temps netted me 225* in the transmission... BUT, and I mean BUT, the hotter it runs the easier it shifts... and it stays that way... I am really liking this combo now... there is no more noise from the transmission than with PZ either... I wish I had a baseline temp for PZ in my transmission...

I also pulled the plug immediately after driving it for 20 miles on Friday morning... the fluid does not show any indications of foaming from pulling the fill plug and letting a little run out... and I checked both the tcase and transmission...

Oh, and it took me from 1400EST Friday until 1800EST Saturday to get from Oil City, PA to Dalhart, TX!!

The FAST coolers make it easier to overfill the transmission. I have a funnel with the twist on or off valve attached to a 5 or 6 ft piece of hose & fill through the top of the drivers side cooler.

My transmission is still shifting great. Once in great while I get a clash. The warmer temps now seem to make it shift better also. It amazing the different mixtures that work for some & not for others.

I put the truck back to stock for a few hours & the shifting improves even more. (no Superchips) I guess it means the transmission is getting worn out, but I want to get out of it what I can.

I wished the transmission came with a real drain plug on the bottom, I think using the bottom bolt on the PTO plate is one of the dumbest ideas ever.

How's the Lucas working out?

5000 miles... it is still working GREAT! The hotter the transmission gets, the better it shifts...

I will post temps now that I have had a chance to study them... towing a 1500# trailer and running 65mph nets a temp that is around 125* above ambient temps... it varies with load (climbing long hills) and speed, but is very predictable...

Ambient 110* (yes, Texas panhandle was 110* Wednesday), operating temp 235*s...

Ambient 80*, operating temps 195*s...

Ambient 60*, operating temps 180*s...

But so far so good... the Lucas gets a thumbs up from me...

What type of Lucus oil was it the oil stabilizer or the the stuff for auto trannys that say it works for light duty manual transmission's to?

The stuff for automatic trannies, that states for light duty manual transmission's...

I was getting a bad shift on the 2-3, only when cold (Im running redline mtl).

After reading this thread, i decided to try overfilling the transmission a little and adding an ounce of mopar friction modifier (it's all i had left in the 4ounce bottle). I just did this yesterday afternoon, but so far it seems to be a good improvement. I will update after i get some miles on it. With the 1000 miles a week i drive it shouldn't take me too long to update. :D

i just had my notchy and noisy 5600 torn down and re-assembled this week. i am going to fill it with amsoil MTF and the mopar LS additive to see how it does... it has to be better than the RP i had before.

you guys are noting transmission temps in the 190-225* range... my transmission has never been that high. it hardly ever moves the needle. i have the fast coolers and always overfill the transmission by 1 quart and the only time i see the needle move is when im running 75mph for 40-50 miles or more it will go to 120ish... and ive seen 150* when pulling a trailer about 75mph for over 100 miles. its a new temp sensor... do you think it may be a grounding issue or something not giving me a proper reading?

I have Fast Coolers as well and with cooler temps, the needle might never move. If it is in the 40s, it will run about 140. If it is 80, it runs about 180. The coolers seem to have made a difference, however, in cold temps the transmission never gets hot enough to allow good shifting (always cold shifts).

I overfilled by the recommended quart and my NV5600 did not like it. It ran hot until I drained that quart out (simply popped the filler plug and left it drain)... so I'm not sure that is a good idea. Most guys don't have a temp guage top see any difference.

I am currently running straight Amsoil MTF, and it is by far the most consistant oil across the board. It isn't the best at any one thing. The two best oils to date are Amsoil and Redline... they are pretty close in performance. I too had a bad experience with RP. It seems that these trannies are not one-fluid-fits-all, as what works in one might not work in another.

I posted this up over at BITOG and they are telling me to run 6 quarts of MTF, one quart of MTL (the thicker stuff), and up to 4 ounces of friction modifier.

I also posted my ruined RP Synchromax report over there and they said it appeared it had sheared quite a bit... actually a lot because the UOA only had 500 miles or so on the oil itself. But they also found a bunch of other stuff in the sample that wasn't found in virgin synchromax.
