Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) nv5600

iv heard alot about the 5 speed 5th gear nut and main shaft problem and fixes but i was wondering about the 6 speed problems and fixes all info would be great thanks

the gear nut not the same with a nv5600 big issue to some is the rear main getting lube. I have used a filter that attaches to the pto cover get it at www.geno'sgarage.com have used this for 90k miles use a good oil. many out there. I have been happing with Redline MTL. I usually will add 1 1/2 extra quarts past the fill plug. some have notchy shifting. the nature to some extent on this transmission.

Love having the manual trans. You have to row a 5600. It takes a little time to learn it. DIESELWRKS is right, it can be notchy. I also run the Redline. I was hoping to free it up a bit, but it is what it is. It is no hot rod until you get her rolling. On the freeway you never have to shift.

Sounds like there are a couple of companies that know the 5600 really well. There is a thread in the "911" section taking about one of them.
